I have posted about my beloved little kitty Sophie before, She has developed a problem with pooping outside her cat box! Now I have tried Everything from a "stay off spray" In the corners of her litter room (where she usually poop's) to putting diffrent litter boxes around the house in diffrent room's. Our most recent attempt was getting her fixed I wanted to wait until she was 6 month's old but decided to do it now because the vet said it would help her problem.... NOPE! at first she stopped going on the floor, But then when she had healed completely she went back to her old behavior! Now I have noted in my previous post about her situation here but to save anybody the trouble I will tell it again!

She had her own Room where she can get away and have her own time she has a cat tree in there that goes from floor to ceiling right by the window because she likes to watch the bird's  No one can get in there besides me and her and my husband but he usually doesn't go in there  She has one Cat pan in there and one in our bathroom. One is covered and the other is uncovered. Someone said in the last post that it could have been the covered pan because it stink's and cat's don't like the smell!

My sister (I hate it when she is right) Told me that I have to get rid of her because once they start this behavior they will never stop... Sophie is the sweetest puss in the world and I DO NOT want to get rid of her, she made her way into my heart the first day she came home! Please anyone who has had this problem in the past, any suggestions! I am at a loss here!

BTW someone told me to squirt her with a water bottle.... Ummm I am not doing that, that is mean!

do you use bags in the box, you know those liners? my cat used to love to tear them apart. just a thought. and if you do maybe she doesn't like the bags.
good luck, don't give up!

Thank you so much

Shannonmac- I do use the bags and I don't know why I didn't think of it myself! She probably doesn't like them! Another problem I think that she is having is that I have a 2 year old and a 3 month old son. She started doing this Shortly after my second son arrived! And so far we have tried everything to get it to stop!

I am going to try to take the bags out of her box and see if that help's!

Holden's mom- Thank you for the link, There was a lot of useful info on there! I don't know about the locking her in a room though she has her own room that she can come and go from as she pleases... But that is the only room she is pooping in! She doesn't go all over the house just on the tile floor in her kitty room!

here's what worked for me..

Michelle, I had problems with this when I brought my puppy home, and the locking in a room really worked wonders for my Petey. It is very hard, because your cat will cry and you will want to let her out if you are home, but it will re-train her to use the box.

I would also suggest cleaning the area where she poops with something like K.O.E (a kennel cleaner that you can purchase at most vet offices) so that odor goes away. She is probably continuing to go there because she smells it and thinks it's the place to do it.

The link HoldensMom gave you probably suggests both of these but I wanted to let you know from experience what worked great for me.

Good luck!!

Same problem

My kitty is 16 years old. He started doing this when the box gets dirty or I don't get to clean it enough. He will actually get in and poop outside the box. I put plastic down so I can just clean it up. Maybe your fur baby likes the box really clean too!!
