So sorry!!

My thoughts and prayers are with your friend. I understand what she is going through....and it's wonderful that you are there to allow her to grieve and work through her emotions. My families boxers grew up around house cats and we didn't really have problems....of course, they thought they were cats too.....I did see on occassion.....rough play....luckily the cats had gotten used to the roughness of play and would know what to do when this happened....go for high ground immediately!! We did have a young cat that was stepped on during rough play only to die a month later from internal damage....unfortunately, we were never given a clear diagnosis and still don't know if that is what caused his passing or if the damage was from something else.....it was hard for the whole family! Please keep us posted as to the outcome. Again, I am so sorry!

So sorry for your friend, can only imagine the horror she felt. I just adopted an 8y/o female from a shelter and she seems very uninterested but I am of course concerned, I have 3 cats and I am not sure how one deals with this

So sorry for your friend. I have a cat also. And Emma and her play pretty rough. I cant imangine that the dog did it on purpose. It had to have been an accident.

i am very nervous after hearing these stories

we have cat 2 years old and a month ago we got bailey she is a little over a 3 months old right now bailey is in the kitchen where her crate and toys etc.... are and there is a baby gate between the kitchen and restof the house they have been nose to nose and around each other , scooter(cat) doesn't like how active bailey is , but he just runs away if she is bothering him but when she grows up what will happen, what is the best way to get them to be friends????

I am so sorry for your friends loss. I think we forget that most dogs do have some prey instint and they are capable of hurting a smaller animal. Now with boxer I would assume that is was playing that went all wrong. I have a tree walker coonhound named Lilly and because of her hunting instincts I am very careful with how she gets to interact with my inside cats. She is never allowed to play with them and she is always wrong even if they come up and smack her. I don't know if this is the correct way to deal with this, but I do the same with my boxer Oscar now. And haven't had any incidents, and she avoids them now and occasionally she will sleep with them, but never unsupervised. Now we have had a few incidents with neighbors cats coming in the yard and her "playing" with them, which consist of her holding them down with her paws and licking them. I have warned the neighbors to please keep their cats away from her, because although she is not hurting them now I can't guarentee that she won't. Now I wouldn't characterize any breed to be particularly more agressive with smaller animals, just remember that most dogs are capable and take neccessary precautions. I am so sorry about your freinds loss and I hope she finds the ability to forgive her boxer, and realize that it probably was not intentional. Good Luck

SOrry to hear of your loss. My heart goes out to you..Also to your boxer. I know from seeing Jackson play with our cat that he often plays hard and rough and I often have to interveen. I do know he mips her at times but he is just playing. When you have a 80 lb. dog jumping, playing with a 10-15 lb cat, it doesn't take much to get a serious injury.
Please don't forget him........ give your boxer some attention as well. He needs a lot of love at a time like this as well. in time, things will start to feel better. You have to work together and accept the help you friends have to offer. We are all thinks of you all............
