My baby Casper is so sick. Last weekend I woke up on Saterday with two bloody diaherra accidents in my bed room. Of course with three boxers in my bedroom I had no idea who was sick so I went out side with them for there first thing potty break and Casper my 6 month old still had bloody diaherra. So I called my vet and they advised bring him in right away. So off to the vet we went. Several test later the vet thinks he has had to much bone ( a Christmas Prestent) And gives me some Antiobotics and a pill as he described like pepto for dogs. I have been giving him his medician faithfully but he does not seam to be getting better. In fact his hind legs seam to be giving out on him when he tries to get up or walk. So Wendsday afterwork he is still no better I call the vet and he said he wanted to see casper again today possibly to run more test and do ex-rays. I am just so worried about my sweet little white boy. Does any one have any idea what is wrong with him so I might be able to have my vet check?

That makes me wonder about a possible perforation or obstruction, particularly with the hind end weakness. Is he eating and drinking normally?

What sort of bone was it, btw?

He is eating and drinking. It was a smoked bone. I'n not sure what you mean btw? My vet is also leaning towards obstruction.

OK - a smoked bone makes sense. To be frank, those things are rather dangerous to feed. All cooked bones are. The problem with them is the act of cooking (including smoking) dries out the bone and makes it brittle and inclined to splinter into sharp shards when the dog chews on it. There is only one form in which bones are safe to feed - and that's raw. Raw bones are moist and pliable - which, aside from less risk of damage to teeth, also means they don't splinter into sharp bits.

Anyway - that doesn't help you all that much right now. But the possibility that a sharp bit of bone may have perforated his intestinal tract is a real one. That would account for the blood and hind-end weakness as much as outright blockage would (plus, with a blockage, he might be less inclined to eat/drink). It's another possibility anyway. Both that and blockage are life-threateningly serious though. So getting him back in to your vet really needs to be a matter of some urgency.

I am sure that gmacleod is on the right track. I don't have any advise, but I just wanted to wish you luck, and I hope your baby recovers soon. Sending lots of healing ((((vibes)))))) your way. :)

I had a dog who went to a barbecue years ago and ate quite a few bones the splinters had perforated his bowels he had to stay at the vets for almost a week untill he healed it seemed like it was a guessing game no one would give me an answer but he was OK. Have they done x'rays to see about an obstruction? Please take him back to the vet, my dog was weak too.

Best of luck! I hope it's something far less serious than the above. Do post back with an update if you get the chance.
