Boxer Pal
Maybe her name should have been Lucky...

Our little Macy has always done well in the back of our vehicles. In my Jeep Cherokee I roll the windows down just enough so she can poke her head out and she is real good about staying in the cargo area. She also rides in the back of my girlfriend's convertible Bug and between her six-month size and the high sides of the back seat area she had never been able to do more than put her paws on the window sills and look out. We keep her anchored on her leash in the back of the vehicles but I had been thinking about getting her a seatbelt of some sort to protect her in case of an accident. Little Macy made the decision for me yesterday though... On a short trip to the park (just down the street) Macy was enjoying a ride in the Bug with the top down. As we slowed to pull into a parking spot she saw a young girl that she just HAD to say hello to and she jumped ship! Right out the passenger side of the Bug. I didn't notice until I heard the thud and saw the look of terror in my girlfriend's eyes. The anchored end of the leash was tight and I could only imagine my poor girl had managed to get under the tire. As I frantically tried to unanchor the leash my girlfriend opened the car door to find Macy standing there (leash still attached) wagging her tail wondering why it was taking us so long to get out of the car... Whew! Seatbelt time! Even if you think your dog won't jump out of the car... given the opportunity (open window), motivation (something your beloved boxer just HAS to say hello to), and the right vehicle speed (coming to a stop) they just might jump... get your baby a seatbelt before something unexpected and awful happens...
