Canidae - how much to feed?

Hi everyone,

I just switched Riley to Canidae from Chicken Soup (with about a 9 day blending of the 2). The bag says that adults 50 lbs and over should eat 1-2 cups a day. Riley is 15 months and weighs about 51 lbs. 2 cups a day seems like too little for her to eat. I have been giving her about 3 cups a day. I think she looks good at the weight she is now. How rich is Canidae...I don't want her to gain weight? How much do other people feed?

My bag says adults 25-50lbs - 1-2 cups. 50-75lbs - 2-3 cups. Therefore a 50lb dog should get 2 cups. It is pretty rich, and is enough, even though it doesn't look like enough.

Laila gets about 3 cups per day. Some days she eats it all and other days she doesn't. All that matters is she looks healthy.

Roxy's only 9 mos. (not sure when they go from being a puppy to being an adult), so I'm giving her 4 cups right now. I know what you mean about it not seeming like enough. The kibble is so small that it just covers the bottom of her bowl. I agree that what's important is that she's maintaining a healthy weight. The guidelines on the bag are a good starting point, but can be adjusted to fit the dog.

What is on the bag is just a guide. If you think she needs 3 cups, feed three cups. Just keep a very close eye on her weight and if she starts to gain, just cut back a little. All dogs are different and their activity levels can vary greatly and it can make a big difference in how much food they need.
