I posted on here about dog food and went to the dog food analysis and found the CANIDAE food to be a 5 star. I feed Purina now.

Now I am reading on here that it is NOT good they have changed it - please help I do not know what to do.

I know there are a few different kinds - chicken, lamb etc. - is any of it good. It is cost affective for me since I have 3 large all about 60 lb. dogs. I can get 30lb. bags for $33.00.

In my area food like Wellness is $60 a bag, Blue is $44, Solid gold $55 & Innova is $55 a bag for only 28lbs.

The more I read the more confused I get.

based on ingredients, Canidae is still a very good food. Just because it doesn't suit ALL dogs (and there is no food in existence that does ;)), doesn't mean that it won't work perfectly well for yours.

To say that because it didn't suit some dogs it is a bad food is quite wrong. What probably is fair though, is to say that the old formula of Canidae suited a very high (and actually unusually high) number of individuals. The newer formula suits rather less individuals. But that is a LONG way from it suiting nobody - there are plenty of dogs doing perfectly well with the new formula (it is worth bearing in mind that people post when things go wrong far more often than they post when things are going well - just like for health issues).

You can also check into Taste of the Wild, many on here have had good luck with it and have found the price reasonable. There is also Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul that is reasonably priced and is a good food. Natural Balance isn't too expensive and is also a good food. I pay $47 a bag at PetCo for the LID fish formula and that lasts me 3 weeks (it's a 28 pound bag) feeding a 62 pound Boxer and a 67 pound Boxer.

But you could also try Canidae and see how your dogs do on it. Just watch for some of the symptoms other dogs had and if they experience them you can always return the bag to the store you purchased it from (with receipt) for a full refund as it has a 100% satisfaction guarantee.

Good luck.

I just bought a bag of Canidae Lamb & Rice a few days ago for our wheaten terrier. She just got her allergy test results and she is allergic to chicken, pork & oats. The Canidae Lamb and Rice was one of the recommended foods to try.

I liked the idea of the ALS (and the price), and was planning on switching our 7 mo old boxer puppy onto it to to get down to buying one food (he's currently doing great with Blue Buffalo puppy).

I'll keep an eye on our wheaten to see how she does on the canidae, she's had some gas/loose stool issues for the last few days, but I just chalked that up to the food transition. If it doesn't get much better, I'll give TOTW Pacific Stream a shot.

I used to buy Canidae both before and after the formula change and didn't have any issues with it. Last year I switched to Taste of the Wild only because I could get it from my trainer locally. I had to drive about 30 miles to get the Canidae. Go ahead and try it and see how things go.

I've had Capone (my 1 year old boxer) on Canidae since I got him last spring. At first everything was fine, but I noticed that after going through 4 bags of Canidae ALS that he's started to lose weight (3 lbs in less than 3 weeks), vomiting more regularly than he should and has a very soft stool. At first I thought he'd gotten into something, so I fed him bland chicken and white rice for a few days and he was fine. As soon as I started him back on Canidae he got sick again.

Yesterday I did a bit of research and found pages and pages of complaints about Canidae. There is also a class action law suit against Canidae due to serious illness including renal failure resulting in having animals put to sleep, I decided to switch Capone to Wellness large breed. It is extremely expensive, but I can't bring myself to put a price on his health.

When I gave him Wellness for the first time last night, he picked the Wellness kibble out of the bowl and ate it first and left the Canidae kibble in there.

Not all dogs will have issues with Canidae, but be sure to do your research before switching.

After transitioning him to Wellness completely, I will let you know (if you wish) the results. Wellness got the best ratings of all the kibble I've looked into.
