Hello everyone,

I have a question. Today I went out for a bit and left Ethel by herself at home by herself. She is usually veryg ood (sometimes she gets into the laundry, etc., but what dog doesn't?).

I got home, however, and found a stuffed bear that I got for Valentine's Day, on the living room floor. The pouch it was holding (that was full of candy, of course!) completely empty. Eth threw up a Werther's wrapper as well as some of her stomach contents (which looked a bit like chocolate milk)> I'm not worried about the chocolate, as there wasn't much in the pouch (and she doesn't really have any signs of chocoalte poisoning) - I am more worried about the wrappers. I can honestly say that I don't know how many wrappers were in there - maybe about 7 - 10? She has been acting normal since I got home, but I'm still worried.

Have any of your dogs ever gotten into anything like this, and if so, what was the result? Any advice is appreciated. Of course I'll be watching her behavior and eating/bowel movements, I'd just like to hear your advice.

Thanks so much,
Angela & Ethel

First of all.......you are not normal.
How could you have chocolate left around sine February14th!!!
LOL - never happen at my house. I've heard you can't let the sun set on chocolate, it must be consumed immediately or you'll have bad luck for a thousand years. I have always heeded that warning :)
I love Werthers and so does Mack - when he was about a year old he ate almost a whole bag - wrappers and all with no ill effects.
Mack believes the bad luck thing too and was trying to save me.

Jennie ate almost a whole pack of chocloate chip cookies when she was younger. She vomitted tons of chocolate chips and the vet told us to feed her bread to help absorb it. It worked and she was fine!

I am laughing so hard as I read this post...maybe it is because her name is Ethel. I had a sudden vision of Lucy & Ethel stuffing candy in their mouths, blouses on the conveyor line! Maybe she was part of the re-enactment! Hopefully the wrappers will pass easily.

Thanks for the kind/funny words and advice, everyone! Ethel is just fine, and, as I hoped, just passed the wrappers without a problem. Though her bowel movements were sparkling with foil for 2 days! We called her vet and he said that with her size, the wrappers shouldn't be a problem - and thankfully they weren't!

And Nanabear, don't worry I am normal - I had forgotten all about that particular stash of chocolate. Otherwise, it would have been me with the chocolate overdose, not her!

Thanks again!
