Hi, I'm new to this forum and would love some input, advise, inspiration. My 2 year old beautiful baby, Oscar has been diagnosed with cancerous tumors. We are waiting for the pathology report to tell exactly what kind and where to go from there as far as treatment. Has anyone ever heard of a Boxer having cancer at 2 years old??? He has several tumors between his rectum and what use to be his testical. I have 10 more days to wait, the doctor said the only thing he can tell right now is that it's NOT Mast Cell - thank god! If anyone has any suggestions for research or good vets in the southeastern Michigan area I would really appreciate it.

Completely Boxer Crazy
Sorry to hear about Oscar. My Mugzy gave us a similar scare at one point. Over a long weekend he developed a lump on his bottom that I thought was a hemorroid. In fact, it was a non cancerous tumor, but my goodness it had really grown from Thursday to Monday! They removed it and he was fine with no reoccurance.

Good luck with your baby and keep us posted.

Brooklyn-Dan----I'm sorry, but I think Lisa would get more suport, suggestions and responces on 'the boxer ring' forum. There are way more people that go there and may never go to the others. I've never been to any other forum except that one because of how many replies you get and how many people are on that one.

Please switch this one back, for her. I personaly know Lisa and would like to see her get the help she needs.

Thanks!

Sadly, Boxers are more prone to certain types of cancers than other breeds. Not-so-sadly, they typically have much higher rates of successful treatment and longevity after diagnosis.

As for vets in SE Michigan, Dr. John Fraser at Cadieux-Mack Animal Hospital is very knowledgable about Boxers - he does the majority of show crops and works with breeders throughout the state.

P.S. - I'm going to have to support Dan's move of this thread to the Health forum....the Boxer Ring is already so busy that there are usually 2 pages of new messages for me every morning. If this thread is not a "hot topic" I think it would get buried in the Boxer Ring!

going through the same thing

I am currently going through the same thing with my fawn female who will be two in July. About three weeks ago she started to form a growth on her face. By the time I had my Vet check it out last Friday, the growth was about the size of a Rice Krispie. My Vet is not willing to take any chances when it comes to Boxers and unusual growths. She is scheduled to have it removed this Friday. If the growth is determined to be cancerous, my Vet has assured me it is treatable. He went on to tell me about a Boxer in his care who has had numerous cancerous growths removed over the years. This dog is now 16 years old and whose only problem now is lack of excercise. I hope everything goes well with Oscar. Take care.

thank you

DaisyDuke - thank you so much for that information, it's the most promising thing I've heard over these last 2 weeks. Oscar goes back to the vet this thursday to have his stitches removed and hopefully we'll have the pathology report back by then. Oscar is doing wonderful, he never acted sick before his surgery and he certainly doesn't act like he had surgery. I'm thankful he is not in any pain and hoepfully this will all be resolved by the end of the week. I will update this thread when I find out!
