Hi All ~
I wasn't sure where to turn for support, so I decided to start here. Our lives fell apart mid-week last week. Max, our best friend, began to have many accidents in the house and was drinking water like there was no end. We took him to our vet who ran blood work on him and did a urinalysis. All of his blood work came back normal except his calcium which was elevated at 14. Our next step was to re-run the calcium to see if it was elevated in error.... unfortunately it was not, it came back at 14 once again. Our vet is telling us this is very indicative of cancer... which I really don't want to believe. My father-in-law who breeds boxers suggested that we take him to a university for further testing... sooo we are heading to Ohio State University tomorrow morning for a complete array of tests to see what they can come up with... My heart is broken, as is my family's., especially my 17-year-old who missed school today. We are a wreck, Max is such a huge part of our family and we cannot imagine functioning without him. Max has two "siblings", a 14-year-old black lab and a 4-year-old Shih-Tzu, but as you all are aware, boxers just have that loving personality that doesn't quit. If anyone has experienced anything similar, I would love to hear about it.. and please keep us in your thoughts.

Thanks,
Chel

I'm so very sorry--you will be in my prayers. But don't imagaine the worst! Sounds like there's no conclusive diagnosis yet. Also, many illnesses are manageable! Please let us know what happens!!

A lump

As I was reading through this site, I went back and throughly massaged Max, I found a lump, the size of a grape in his armpit area behind his right front leg. I am trying to be optimistic and will update you when we return tomorrow. Thanks again for your well wishes.

Sending Max lot's of hugs and healing vibes, I am so sorry you and your family are going through this, I understand how much it hurts.
We did lose Morrissey to cancer, a brain tumor, in April, I couldn't even think straight. Hopefully something can be done for Max tomorrow, don't give up hope...I know it's hard. Sending big hugs to you and your family, hang in there, kisses to Max, good luck tomorrow, paws crossed..Kate, Morrissey's mommy.

Chel--

So sorry to hear about Max. If you aren't satisfied at OSU (which I can't imagine, as they have such a great vet dept.), you may want to explore a place called MedVets located in Columbus. I live in the Dayton area, and my vet is always telling me about the cutting-edge stuff they're doing over there. It may be worth a shot.
