Can you sleep through the night?

Does anyone else have a boxer that likes to go out through the night? No matter what time he eats or when the last time is he goes out before bed, he wakes through the night, usually sometime between 1 and 5 and wants to go out. I asked the vet about it, and he said " I guess that's up to you,
he doesn't NEED out, he can hold it", so now it's become a habit. I guess he was right, Moucho can hold it, cause if there is a snow storm, or it's raining, you can't force him out! If I tell him to go back to bed (mine) he usually goes right back to sleep. If he stands almost on me, nudges, and whines then I know he really needs to go, so I get up. Not so bad in the winter cause I can just let him out, but in the summer I have to go out too, with him on leash in case there's a skunk in the yard. The joys of having a baby.....

Yup, he never fails.....every single night Cassius gets up at 4:00 am. Fortunately I can go back to sleep for a few hours after he does his business. It never fails because even if his last time to go out is at midnight, he'll still get up at 4????? I think he's on the same clock as those damn wild roosters! I get up with him everytime, and it doesn't bother me a bit! I love my smooshie face boy

I'm right there with you guys. Tess always awakens around midnight and wants out of the bedroom. I never got a good night's sleep and it was killing me!!! Furthermore, 90% of the time, she didn't have to potty, she just wanted to play.

I've handled it by making her go potty before we go to bed so that I'm sure that she doesn't need to go. Then, when she starts whining, scratching at the door, and generally acting a fool at midnight-3am, I tell her, "No!" and ignore her. If she continues to disregard my command and whine and fuss, I tell her "Bad Dog" and put her in her crate for a short time out (like 1 min).

It's been a tough learning process (especially at 3am), but I was very consistent. If she chose to whine and fuss at night, she went to the crate. Now she seems to understand that her choices are (1) calming down and going back to sleep in the room with me or (2) continuing to fuss and going to her crate.

It's not 100% - we still have crazy nights when she doesn't get enough exercise, but for the most part, she's been very good lately.

I get woke up at 7:00am every morning like clock work.Now I can use him for my alarm clock....Set mine anyway just in case he doesnt wake me up.

I let Nina out at 1130pm and she will not wake us till 7am....i think that pretty good for a 5 month old.

I have to say we've been pretty lucky. Molly is almost 5 months and she has held it through the night for as long as I can remember. Now that doesn't mean she is sleeping. Well yes she sleeps but we don't. Every night she starts in her bed and ends up on ours and that is pretty much the end of our sleep. We get Frito smelling feet in the face, and she seems to release her gas during her sleep. But we don't have the heart to wake her.
So yes we are sleep deprived just not because of potty training.

Our two have been slowly getting us up earlier and earlier. At first it was 7am then 6:30 and now 5:30 (uh-uh, no way). Their thinking is: the earlier I get up to pee, the earlier Mom feeds us. Well guess what?? I started letting them out then going back to bed until 7am--Surprise!!!

Actually until fairly recently, Skye, our baby (now 16 mos old) was getting us up in the middle of the night. That has pretty stopped since we started dragging them out of bed at 10:30 pm for a potty break (ha!!). They hate getting up at the 10:30 break

I try to take Titan out for the last time about 10-10:30 but he gets up around 5:45-6 every morning. It doesn't matter if I take him out at midnight- he'll still wake up by 6. But the funny part is on the wkends he'll sleep until like 7--guess he likes the lazy Sat. and Sun.'s too.

Lord. Lord

Gregory goes to bed at 10pm. I take him out right before then and he does his business. About 4am tp 4:30am I get the barks and I take him out. He does his business and right back into the crate. He then wakes me up around 6-6:30am for breakfast. However, sometimes he refuses to remain in his crate after 5:30, so I get to go downstairs and sleep on the floor with the little man...usually until 6:15 or so. I have lost alot of sleep these days.
