My doggie day care insisted we have Laila vaccinated for Kennel Cough (Bordatella shot) We had the vaccination 9 days ago and she just started hacking like she has something in her throat. She doesn't have the goopy eyes and runny nose w/ boogies like many of you described. Anyone have a similar experience?

She could have picked up a strand of it at the daycare or she could be having a reaction to the vac. KC is just like the common cold to humans. There is so many different strands it is impossible to vac against them all. The vac that she got for it only vacs against a few strands ;)

I have often heard of dogs getting kennel cough from the Bordatella vaccination. It is usually a milder version though.

As Andie said it could just be another strain of Kennel Cough that she wasn't innoculated for.

I think it is crazy for kennels etc. to insist that they be vaccinated for kennel cough because, as Andie said it is just like the common cold.

Tara was supposed to be vaccinated for her puppy classes, fortunately no one asked for proof. :)

I had this happen once after Ginger had the Bordatella vaccine. She coughed a little the day after. Then she was fine.

Last year we boarded our 2 dogs and the place required we give them the vaccine. They were vaccinated with our normal vet and everything was fine. When they were boarded the place "lost" our proof of vaccination records and RE-VACCINATED both dogs. This time they got the bordatella vaccine via their nose. From what I understand there is a shot they can get or it can be administered nasally. Anyway, Jasmine did get KC and it was horrible. We tried every natural remedy and nothing worked. It turned into a case of amonia and she was put on antibiotics. Hope Laila doesn't have it and is better soon.:)
