Our Thumper had a mild case of localized demodex when she was three months old - she only had two or three small patches of missing fur, and the scrapings showed an insignificant amt of mites (2). Fortunately, it readily cleared up and her fur grew back in. She just recently got spayed, and now at 7 months, I've noticed that she is again losing fur in the very same spots. Is it possible for this recurrence to remain localized? Any input would be greatly appreciated - Cathy

A recurrence of localized demodex after a spay is not unusual at all - the immune system has been somewhat compromised (stress, surgery, etc.) and the mites have gotten the upper hand again. Since it self-resolved last time, there's a good chance it will this time as well, and once her immune system is fully mature she may be free of recurrences. (There is also the chance that it will progress, of course, but let's keep the focus positive. :) Immune support after a surgery is never a bad idea, in any case, and might be even more helpful now.)
