I had to take Nano to the vet this morning because she woke up with a swollen bleeding anus (sorry :() Some of you may remember we lost Fluffy to anal gland carcinoma. The vet today isn't leaning toward cancer at this point. She wants to try treating it as a anal gland abscess that burst. Anyone have experince with that? Im thinking if she was having anal gland problems that she would have been licking or scooting or showing some other symptoms prior to it bursting. Also there is no foul oder which you would expect. I'm trying to stay positive but it seems so much like Fluffy's cancer. Anyone have experience with an anal gland abcsess that burst? What happened? Were there prior symptoms?

So after just one dose of the antibiotic Nano's stomach is a mess. She has never tolerated taking meds and has always had a sensitve stomach. I don't know what to do. They gave her pepcid to take with the meds but its not helping. She now refuses to eat, keeps burping, throwing up small amounts, & does the crazy air licking thing. If she isn't eating I can't give her the meds. What besides the pepcid can I do?

Try some yogart. It with the changes that the antibiotics cause. You can also ask the vet for some flagyl and metrodizonal. One if for the runs and one is for nausea.

I'm sorry you are going thru this. Hoping all is well soon.

Perhaps have your vet consider a different antibiotic? Cami couldn't take the traditional stuff like Clavamox, Cephalexin, Amoxicillin, etc... but Zeniquin didn't bother her at all. It is outrageous though in comparison to the typical antibiotics. She took 25mg (if I remember right) daily and it was just a tad over $3.00 PER PILL (but worth it for her not to be nauseated).

I agree. A different antibiotic and some liquid carafate to coat the stomach and protect it

Zeniquin is what she is taking. Its heavy duty stuff in the baytril family but they said she needed strong antibiotics due to how much bacteria is in that area of the body. I tried a little vanilla yogurt but she didn't want it. Shes never really been a fan of dairy. I knew this was going to happen. We had the same problem about a year ago when she was on clavomox. Except at least that time it took a almost a week before she got really sick. I'm going to call the vet. Maybe she can get an injection and bypass the stomach all together?
