Herkie is on a hunger strike...and the vet and I've decided that there's a female in heat around here. And he's showing all the classic signs. Restlessness(only inside), whining, REFUSING to eat...unless it's something tasty like MY food. But anyway...because Herkie can't swallow like other dogs, and refuses to eat his food...can I give him Chicken Noodle Soup...just so he'll be getting some nutrients in him? I'm sure he'll gobble that up, and would be able to swallow that. I tried pasta, but he can only eat that in TINY, TINY amounts...it's just too much for him to swallow.

I know I've heard you can give dogs Chicken Noodle Soup before...but I just wanted to check...and should I give him the Low Sodium? Thanks for your help!

Well, I wouldn't be inclined to spoil him with 'human food' at all, especially not ready-made soup. The broth from boiled chicken is often given to dogs that aren't well and won't eat, but that's a rather different proposition. If you do give it to him though, definitely pick the low sodium kind. Ready-made soup has a huge amount of salt in it.

If he's so bothered by a nearby female in heat, I guess he's not neutered? That would be a pretty effective fix ;)

Thanks Debbie, I actually got him to eat a considerable amount of food today, it took some coaxing, so hopefully it will continue in this direction and I won't need to use the soup. And no he's not neutered, but I was speaking to his vet, and once we get him over his current UTI...then in he goes for his neutering. Vet says 1st things 1st...and I totally agree, but man...the way he's acting is driving me crazy! Well...I guess he feels the same way! Poor fella!
