Can Dogs eat bones?

I have a bunch of T-bones that I would love to give her (belle) and I dont remember if T-bones are ok to give dogs?

If they are baked then definately not. Only give bones if they are raw

You only want to give raw bones b/c cooked bones can splinter and cause perforation of the bowel, among other things. Stick to raw bones, which you can get at a butcher shop. Just tell them you need raw bones for your dog and they will know what to give you.

Our vet is totally against bones both cooked and raw. I don't know exactly why, but raw bones can carry bacteria and also be contaminated (as all raw materials which are not processed right), because raw bones are not consumed by people, shops are not that careful in their processing. Cooked bones on the other hand, may splinter more easily and cause bowl problems. Maybe it's better to give them the synthetic bones (there are some which are also calsium enriched which do them a world of good).

The raw bones that most people feed their dogs are those that can be found in human grocery stores; things may be different in Greece, of course. Dogs are not generally susceptible to the bacteria that may be found in raw bones; generally this is a human-health concern, and standard food handling precautions are adequate.

Cooked bones should never be fed.

I think things are not that good in Greece. Bones are indeed those that can be found in groceries and butcher's, bad there is great concern that these may carry bacteria or diseases such as mad cow disease and more. As a general precaution, the ministry has warned people against consuming bone marrow (such as when you boil bones to make soup) or bone marrow by products, or -not that well- cooked meat. Although, danger is indeed small for dogs been infected with such bacteria or disease, i wouldn't feel comfortable giving them raw bones,even though they would greatly enjoy it!!! ;-)

Merrick pet foods, which we feed our babies, carries a whole line of bones that are very meaty and hold up to even the most rigorous chewing. Don't leave them completely unattended while they're chewing any bone, though...you just never know. We usually buy a couple every time we restock on dog food, so they probably go through two a month, maybe? Last time I took our girl to the vet the doctor just raved about the state of her teeth and I'm sure that's the reason, because we don't brush or do anything else. I can't recommend Merrick products strongly enough (though, quite spendy...but I'll never have to pay to put these two through college!!)

Irini i feed Avra raw bones(chicken,pork,lamb,cow)4 years now and i have never have any problem.I know that the vets here are against the raw diet generally not only against the raw bones,but the Holistic vets
I don't believe that in Greece the things are differents from the rest countries of Europe and because of mad cow disease i don't feed Avra raw liver and organs
I think is safe to feed your dog raw bones and if you don't feel comfortable because of the mad cow disease you could feed raw bones of chicken,pork and lamb
