We got Pimp to swim over the weekend. I started introducing him to a baby pool before so he would get used to the water while he was young..he still is.
What I don't understand is that Cosworth loves the creek, the baby pool, mud puddles, the gutter, and whatever other water he can find to play in, but a bath or hosing him off, its like I was spraying him with acid. :D
Dixie is 10 wks old and spent the day with my son and I poolside. She has shown no interest in getting wet! She did have a very concerned look when our son jumped in! But did not offer any rescue attempt! We have decided to let Dixie take it upon herself to enter the water (under very close supervision of course). Good luck & be safe!
Thanks for all the great advice guys. Wilma loves to run up and down the concrete steps (no water yet). I did get online and find a great life vest. I fugure I will try her with that until she gets the hang of it and slowly ease her out of it. I will let you all know how we progress. We should have water in about 2 weeks. Thanks again!
We introduced Duke to the water when he was about 11 weeks w/ his best friend Dakota (a yellow lab)... He was not too sure at first, but Dakota kept jumping in the pool. Duke just had to be w/ her so he eventually went in.
It has been many weeks since then and we have spent many days at their pool. Last weekend Duke would not get out of the pool, he is jumping off the sides of the pool, and he is swimming great. He only weighs 40 lbs so who knows what will happen when he is 65 or so. But for now.. he loves it, and it is great exercise too!
Good luck!
Our Mya loved the water, but had great difficulty swimming when she got older (she was too barrel chested). However, she would float around in a pool chair whenever we were in the water. Thumper is much more petite, and although she hasn't been in our big pool, she loves the kiddy one we just bought her. ~

I took my 3 month old baby out yesturday and introduced him to the water. I wasn't sure how he would react, but i just went in and he would follow, and then I would come out and go back in a little deeper each time. I tried to make a game of it by running in and out to make it seem fun. I finally went out to about knee-high for me and he came out and had to doggy paddle. It was the cutest thing ever!!! I would throw toys out there for him to retieve, and every time I would throw it out there a little further! There's a couple pictures of him yesturday. Good luck and let us know how it goes!
My boxers, Niko and Phoenix are totally opposite. While Phoenix swims all over our pool from side to side going after us on floats and chasing tennis balls, my male, Niko --that's another story...he's deathly afraid of water and what's odd is that he gets bathed every Saturday...we have to actually pick his 80 pound muscled body up and put him into the tub. We can't even coax him into the pool with treats or a leash or anything----he's been in once when we carried him in and he didn't sink ---he actually looked quite funny swimming frantically to the steps to get out!
It made for a hilarious video!
