We are 2 weeks away from completion of our in ground pool. Does anyone have any experiences with their Boxer wanting to swim? We will do our best to introduce her to the water when the time comes, I just can tell by the way she reacts at bath time that water is not her favorite thing. Any suggestions? Wilma is a 15 month old fawn female.

Some boxers swim quite well. Some want nothing to do with water. You might want to get Wilma a life jacket and make sure that she knows how to get out of the pool. :)

Avra loves swimming and retrieving toys in the water. She swam very well, but not as easy as some Golden retriviers that i have seen.
Try to introduse Wilma to the water with some toys that she loves.Good luck :)

I've been waiting to see if Cosworth will swim. The dog park I take him to has a couple of swimming holes. He loves to get in the water up to about his chest, and he seems very interested when other dogs swim, but he has yet to venture out into the deeper water to try.

I just posted a similar question in the boxer ring. You may be able to hear some of the stories and aids people use for their pups as well. My old male always sunk. My female dove in when she was 6 months and sunk; She dove in again (tried to walk on the ice) when she was 1 year old. I had to jump in (8 months pregnant) in the middle of February to get her. Fortunately we half drained the pool. Fred, the new baby, can swim.
Good luck, just be safe!

my exp

last year Gabe turned 1. I tried to introduce him to our pool. he did not like it at all. i dont see him ever going in the pool on his own. i dont know if there are any methods to teach them that the water is OK. if anyone had any success, i would be interested to know.

some boxers will love the water and others will stay away from it as if it was the plague. each dog is different so each will react differently. introducing them to the pool should be gradual and not forced. purchasing a life jacket would be a great idea.

Ha! :)

I almost got Coz to swim today. We were at the dog park and he was thinking about it... He'd go out as far as he could possibly go while keeping his head up. I would check a peddle or ball just... out... of... reach. He actually did take a couple of strokes once, but mostly he'd start out, then bound back.

He's thinking about it though! :)

I haven't had the opportunity to introduce Vegas to water yet, but the boxer I had growing up just loved to swim. You couldn't keep her out of the water!! We had a cottage with a beautiful lake and she would always dive in thinking that she was "saving" us! I have a feeling that Vegas probably won't be the same, as she doen't even like to step in a puddle, but ya never know... every boxer is different.
