I have a dilema....I bought Lieutenant about 3 yrs ago. My fiancee and I had a house and he's been with the two of us since day one. Now he's been my dog I feed him I walk him I teach him tricks. He in general listens to me a whole lot more than her. She had a dog also a shit tzu that was Lt's buddy. Well my fiancee and I split up :(. I went and rented a small house in a decent neighborhood until I'm ready to buy which isn't too long. But Lt. doesn't seem to be happy he's ok but he's not been his boisuterous self and hasn't been eating great! Has anyone else been forced to seperate two dogs that have been together their whole life? My x-fiancee really couldn't take care of him correctly or I might think about letting him stay with her. Will he get better?

Sorry

Sorry to hear about your circumstances.

My boxer puppy who is now a year old, was very upset when my old airedale died. He was lost and very quiet for about three weeks. The most upsetting thing for him was the change in routine.

Your dog will get better, give him lots of love and attention, settle him into a new routine for the pair of you and things will improve.

Good luck.

Dogs miss loved ones just like humans. Give him plenty of attention and see about makeing some play dates with other dogs for him. He will be fine it just takes some time. I am sorry about your split.

How long has it been? He is prob just getting used to the new place and missing his buddy. I definilty agree with making some play dates for him and getting him out and about in the new neighborhood so he feels like that is home. Hope he gets back to himself soon. Keep us posted.

Last night was the 1st night

Last night was the first night we spent alone in the new house. I had taken him to my sisters who has another dog and a house full of kids for a couple days while I got everything situated. But last night was our first night alone in the new house. I am very routine since I have a 9-5 and am pretty stable so I will be getting him back in routine over the holiday break. Finally got his kennel back and got him in there today which is what he's used to.

Yeah, it just sounds like it's been alot of change for him over the last few days. I wouldnt worry too much. Like you said, you are very routine oriented, so he will get used to the new routine soon, probably within a few weeks.

Sorry to hear of your breakup. My boy was very sad for a couple of months when we lost his sister and when we did a lot of renovations in the house both dogs were stressed, skipped meals, etc. Dogs love routine so I am sure when you have yours established he will come around. Any chance of a play date with his old buddy? Might be hard under the circumstances, huh? Good luck and hope things get better for you both

Thats so sad for you, and you dog. It's never easy, I went through the same thing a few years ago, and my pug was so upset. It was quite some time before he came around. I made sure he got lots of attention, and walks. Just give it time, and he will come around, trips to your local dog park would be a great idea!! best to you, hope you feel better soon! :)
