We are planning on going camping in the middle of March. Our big decision is if we should take Chance or not. If we don't take him then that means staying at the vet's for about 5 days. That makes me sad :(! If we decide to take him (the determining factor will probably be the weather) any advise on what I should bring besides the obvious..water, food, bowls and leash? We will be traveling to another state (OK) and he will have to ride in the back of the truck, in his kennel (no room inside). We will have a popup camper to stay in as well as tents. If we decide to take him, I don't want to forget anything and want it to be a fun experience for him. Thanks!!

We took China camping for the first time last year.
She had a blast. Can't wait to go this year with two.

The things we took are food, bowls, water, toys,
dog bed, a regular leash, and then a 30 foot leash.
Last year we didn't take her create but
this year we will have to for both.

As Jazz gets alittle roudy which gets china going,
then that causes my skin kids going and in
the end my hubby gets grumpy.
But all I can do is laugh at them all!

Hope you have fun!!

Since your traveling out of state, may i recommend you take your shot history with you. Lacie loves camping, just be sure to take along some toys for your baby and she should do just fine.

Hi, Andie We take our two camping all the time. It is something that we ALL enjoy. I wouldn't think of leaving mine at the vets when we go! :D We also take a long line leash and have even taken a portable fence it is about 4 foot tall and can be anchored with tent stakes. (you can buy it a PEtsmart) It is where we put the dogs when we are outside so they don't have to be tied up. It works very well for us. Oh! And something very important..don't forget the benadryl just in case of bee stings! You never know when it will come in handy. We don't leave home without it. :D

Getting ready to take our little one camping for the first time this year too. Besides the obvious, I would recommend bringing along an organic-based (natural) insect repellant or collar. Something non-poisonous, that you won't mind rubbing up against you in the tent at night :)

Don't know where you plan on going, but in the Tennessee foothills in summertime, this is a necessity for people and furballs.

I know I'm a non-boxer owning squatter...

But, I had to throw in my 2 cents. Take a flea comb. Comb down your doggie a couple of times a day from head to toe, looking for ticks. If you catch 'em early, they won't have a chance to dig in :D

Chance will love camping

Our four Boxers travel everywhere with us and all enjoy a camping holiday :)

Everyone has great tips - we also carry a Canine First Aid book (just in case), and a first aid kit for the dogs.

Keisha had a BLAST when I took her camping last summer for 4 days. I was so glad I decided to take her. It was a really nice holiday for her after the puppies left, and I felt safer with her there as it was a girls (and kids)camping trip - no hubbies. Keisha was SO good. I was so proud of her. She slept beside me in the tent on a thick blanket. Luckily it didn't rain at all so there wasn't a big mess.
I think everyone has given great advise on what to bring along.
Have fun on your camping trip!

I think the canine first aid kit is a very good idea. Me and my girlfriend went camping we took Stella and my sister came along with her boyfriend and her dog Charlie. We were sat outside a pub on a picnic table having our dinner. A lot of wasps (bees) were attracted to the table by the food. One wasp flew right in front of charlie and she bit it and got stung in the mouth. We didn't have a first aid kit but we did manage to get to a vet who managed to remove the sting from charlies tongue and fortanatly she was ok. It just goes to show how easily a dog can get hurt, It's better to be prepared for any event. Also I would say take a LOT of towls for you and Chance. When we went camping it rained right through the tent and we all got soaked to the skin.

I hope you have lots of fun on your camping trip. Be really careful, though...you would hate to lose your baby in the woods. Robyn posted a few weeks ago about a lost boxer. Thankfully the boxer was found, but please read the story of what this poor family went through.
