It has been a nail biting, heart wrenching, stress inducing, LONG 2 weeks but we got word last night from the cardiologist that Cami is free to resume normal Boxer activities!!!!! fiestaicon

The results of her holter monitor came back. They confirmed what we already knew from the in-house testing. She has arrhythmias, both from the ventrical (bottom) and atria (top) areas of her heart. She does not have cardiomyopathy.

Her early beats are coming around 1 every hour and none were in clusters. We have caught this very early. It may never progress or it may progress. It is not normal by any means, (electrical heart oddities are never normal) but at this time she does not need to take any meds and can do whatever she wants without any restrictions.

We found out she is taurine deficient and more than likely it is caused from her food. Studies have shown that a diet of Lamb & Rice *can* cause this and she has been on Eagle Pack Holistic Select L & R for about 2 years now. I am presently trying to decide on what to switch her to.

Taurine deficiencies *CAN* cause cardiomyopathy. So for now we know she has Familial Ventricular Arrhythmias, Familial Atria Arrhythmias and a heart mumur (when panting, very low and insignificiant).

We will keep praying that this does not progress any further. I was also told that she would expect to see this on ANY group of random Boxers if they were to be tested. Some suffer symptoms and go on to have complications and progressions while others never do. I am hoping that Cami is in the group of the ones that are never affected by it. We have no concrete evidence on what caused the collapse the night before Easter.

She is going to be re-tested for her Taurine levels in 2 months. She will also have another ultra sound in 6 months to check for any changes to her heart muscle and another holter monitor 24 test at that time as well. If no changes she won't need any further testing for another year.

Great news for you and especially pretty Cami! All boxers just have to be able to play. It's what they do best.

Taurine has been added to commercial cat food since the 1980s, as it was found to be a cause of enlarged hearts in cats. Is it not added to commercial dog food as well? Petey eats a homecooked diet so I will definitely look into this.

Congratulations on the good news. I'm certain Miss Cami is one happy boxer girl today.

Taurine is added to a lot of the commercial foods. Her food also has it. Don't know why her levels are low. Something about the lamb & rice. They don't know yet if it is the lamb the rice or a combination of the two. Either way I am eliminating both from her diet.

Yeah Cami! I am sure she is thrilled to be able to run and play again like a normal boxer! So glad to hear she doesn't have BCM and hopefully the other issues will not progress any further! Congratulations! :D
