Calling in sick??

I'm with everyone else.....call in sick and take your baby to the vet. I have a boss that understands that my furkids are extremely important to me so she never has a problem if I have to take off work for "any" of my kids.

Heck I would rather take off with my dogs then the real kids. Dogs don't yell, MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM please bring me this MOOOOOOOOOOOM please bring me that........

You're not crazy. I've called in sick just to spend some time with Oscar, when I have felt too bad about leaving him. That might be a bit nuts, but I don't care, he's my baby. I hope she feels better! Paula

By all means...call in!I have done it several times with Herkie....I did it so much when he was going through his procedures that I actually got wrote up!I didn't care because when I was at work...I couldn't work for worrying about him...and if anyone would even speak to me...I'd bust out in tears!CALL IN!

I also have called in sick for my late Duke, after his first stroke I brought him to work with me in my office....and after the second one, I stayed home with him....the same as I would do for my skin kids.

I have called in sick before for my dogs, but I said that I was sick, 'cause if my employers knew it was for one of my dogs I would have been made to take annual leave and not sick leave. I don't see this as right, but unfortunately there is not alot I can do about it.

I took one weeks vacation recently because Boru was having a problem with his left eye. The vet prescribed eye drops that needed to be put in his eye every 2-3 hours around the clock. My vet referred me to a dog eye specialist because he still didn't know what was wrong. Boru had a ulcer in the eye that required surgery. I took two more vacation days (Wed. and Thur.) this week and Boru had his surgery this morning. I'm off on Friday and Saturday and hopefully won't need to take any more vacation time. Don't hesitate to take time off from work to take good care of your dog. They deserve it!
BTW, Boru is doing fine. He sure does not like the E-collar, but he's getting used to it. Time for more eye drops.

I have not only called in sick for my pups, but I have actually taken them to work when they are in need of extra attention. They stay in our break room (I work in a dental office) or in the office building behind our office where we have the whole 2nd floor of office space. My fellow employees all "disappear" for breaks to make sure the babies are walked and have water...they also feed them lots of crap! My pups will do almost anything for McDonalds french fries!

I also have skin kids (3 boys) and they are ALL dependant on me & DH for their health/well being so it is not crazy to call in. This could also save you $ if you nip whatever is going on in the bud instead of waiting for it to escalate!

I just had to giggle to myself when I read your post. (Not giggling over sick babies, but the fact that we wonder if it's "politically correct" to take the day/days off to take care of our babies). I am retired now so our Sophie is always in my or hubbies care, but I've taken off many days to tend to her at times when she needed extra care. When she had been to the emergency vet (result of a spider bite) and covered with hives and welts, I stayed home and we laid on the couch together all day. What a glorious day we had. Mommy would not even think of leaving her. She had kennel cough once and a bad cold, I took several days off and we spent every minute together until she was out of danger. I called work and told them I had a sick baby and I'd be back when she was better! I agree with everyone else..always take care of what is most important to you..your family (fur and skin)!

Thank you all for the support. I did take Lucy to the vet and they ran some tests but did not find anything. They gave her some pills to take for a week and if things don't clear up she has to go back. In the meantime I am so glad that I have all of my understanding BW friends to support my feelings about my babies (I have skinkids but they are 15 & 19 now)

Other people (including my boss) think I am a nut. He totally did not understand when I took a weeks vacation when I first brought Lucy home and told everyone I was going on maternity leave. Fortunately I had the time coming and he had no choice. Best week of my life.

Maternity Leave???? I LOVE IT!!!!

I have taken many days with Buster - some b/c he was sick, some b/c he begged me to stay home with him. I think everyone in my office has finally figured out that my children are 4 legged and that I will do ANYTHING in my power to make them happy, healthy and safe.

Kudos to us BW parents!!!
