I would like to know if anyone has had a bad reaction to yearly shots, Cable was fine and in great shape till we got his yearly shots,,, not sure if that's what happened, it may be a coincidence, just wanted to know if anyone else had a bad reaction, he is in the hospital, not doing well having kidney problems, it just seems like a lot of stuff to put in his system at once. We are really sad.

I am so sorry about Cable- you must be so worried. I know there is some controversy about vaccinations and bad reactions ... but it could just as easily be co-incidence. Whatever the reason for Cables illness, please don't beat yourself up. Hopefully your vet will find the answers as to what is wrong with Cable .... and most importantly, that Cable recovers speedily. Sending lots of hugs and positive vibes to you

Its a personal decision, but with my dogs, once they have been fully vaccinated as puppies with follow up boosters, I don't continue with yearly shots. There was a lot of research done a while back that deemed yearly shots to be unneccessary with guidelines that for healthy dogs, three years, and even five yearly shots were adequate. Of course, this is not a widely advertised fact in most vet practices ... as shots is their bread and butter.

Caney had a severe allergic reaction to her 2nd set of puppy shots. It took her a while to get over it. I never took her back to finish the vaccination series, I was scared she would have another reaction and it seemed to me that vaccinating put her health at greater risk than not vaccinating. The next vaccine she got was her rabies shot at 7 months old, which she stayed at the vet's office all day for so that they could monitor her in case of another reaction. She is now 7 years old and has not had another vaccination since then. Like Jinnytee said it is a personal decision whether to vaccinate, for me I feel that Caney is much better off without vaccinations.

I too only went with just doing all the puppy shots. I had my 6 year old boxer boy titre tested for rabies at the age of 6 because he had stage 2 kidney failure and we were travelling across the boarder.
Titres came back right on the boarder line. His kidney blood work was also done he had no changes in values from the year before. The vet said he needed the rabies shot to get across the boarder. In my heart I knew I should of refused it. They called the vaccine manufacturer and they said it will not effect his kidneys. So I agreed. ( so wish I would have listened to my heart). Three months later I had to help my sole full boy to the bridge. I regret my choice every day. RIP Gauge

I am sorry to hear about Cable! :( I hope he recovers.

Vaccinations can cause lots of health issues. Vets never want to admit it as Jinnytee said, they are the vets bread and butter. :(

Thank you all for your good wishes,
Cable is home now, he was at the hospital for a week on an IV fluids to help wash his kidneys, when his BUN count didn't change for 3 days I told my vet I wanted to bring him home, she talked to a internist they recommended we put him on steroids to increase his appetite, which it did, they still cant seem to find the reason for the illness. I firmly believe it was from the shots. He was in perfect health before then, eating good, running with me everyday, pooping good. Just doesn't add up, and they don't seem to have any answers. He is doing a little better everyday, he is still really thin, but he is eating good, we'll see what happens. I think I have lost my running partner, but not my friend. I think a lot more research should be done about shots, I think its too hard on their kidneys to process obviously, be careful if you are told they need shots, at the time it was in the back of my mind, but I thought "well they are vets". I think its too much all at once.
