We live at the edge of the Sandia Mountains. I often take C. G. hiking and walking in the foothills. Now in the foothills and on the mesa live various and sundry coyotes. C.G. is not the biggest Boxer alive, but he seems unaware of this fact.
While hiking this morning some of the denizens of the mesa saw fit to yip and yap a bit. C.G. doesn't tolerate much on a good day and today was not a good day. Having already told some Rottweilers of his willingness to engage in combat, he was not about to allow any coyotes to express opinions or even exist on the mesa itself.
Luckily a quick grab at the harness and a snap of the leash clip thwarted C.G.'s plans for the coyotes. This is not the first time he has gone after them. I try to explain about diseases and parasites they carry, but he just won't listen (surely no one else has this problem - Boxer won't listen :D ) I did once successfully call him off some coyotes when he was off leash on this mesa, but I'm not about to take chances.
In the future I will glass the area with some binoculars prior to letting him free.
Cheer,
Gwailo
