This is somewhat of a rant...just to show how ignorant some people are:

Saturday I had a garage sale so I put Romie on her tie-out & she sat with me most of the day. She had a great time & got lots of lovin' from everyone who came! At one point a lady was over sitting in the grass playing with her & started asking me questions about her - she said she had an 8-year-old male with hip dysplasia and before he got too bad, she wanted to breed him so they could have one of his puppies. She asked if I was interested in breeding Romie when she came into heat!! I was pretty appalled & told her that I didn't believe in breeding animals & wouldn't want to risk her health. She continued to talk about how much she wanted a new puppy & started asking me about where I got Romie from & what her parents looked like. I told her that Romie's mom had been mostly white and she proceeded to tell me that she shouldn't have been bred & how she wouldn't have a puppy from a white mom b/c it couldn't be registered.....BUT she had no problems breeding a male with hip dysplasia!?! HELLO!

Another older man came up & played with her & said that he had boxers when his children were growing up b/c they were the best dog out there for kids. He asked if I was having problems training her & I told him just the normal puppy stuff. He then told me that, that was b/c they were the dumbest dog you could have! He said that they were great with kids, but so dumb that they got into everything & were horrible to train!! GEEZ! Why would anyone ever tell you something like that! Not only is it wrong, but just plain rude!

Anyway, out of all the people there, I guess two ignorant people is a good ratio! Oh, also, my nephew accidentally dropped his Sausage, Egg & Cheese biscuit in the grass & Romie ate it ALL before I could get it from her...Needless to say, she has been having diarrhea problems for 3 days now! Any tips on how to ease her tummy issues?? Thanks!!

Good Golly! 2 out of hundreds is a pretty good ratio! Did you make money and have fun? The dumbest dogs bull%$%#...they really are smart and all dogs get into things...oh well...

That just goes to show you the ignorance of some people. That would have made me very upset for someone to say something like that to me about my baby. I hope Romie gets rid of the diarrhea real soon and is feeling better. Sending her some boxer smooches from little Sabu.

Pepcid AC with 10mg of Famotidine may do the trick (so orginal strength not maximum strength) :) I'd ask your vet though.

Don't people know that boxers are so nosey and into everything because they are actually extremely intelligent and their minds never stop? They are so eager to learn, yet smart enough to only want to do what they are told when it benefits them!

(I know that part of the post belongs in the health forum, but since its already started? If not, feel free to move it!) I figured it would only last a day or so, but she is still having pretty soft/nearly liquid stools. She seems fine otherwise - diarrhea isn't a sign of any other illness is it? Only reason I ask is Romie's brother, Sarge, had something similar over the weekend. They haven't played together lately, but it seemed kinda strange that they'd both have tummy upsets at the same time!?!

I am sorry Erin, but we live in one of the most backwards parts of the nation, I think. I had someone driving past my house Saturday afternoon as I was loading my crew into the car to go spend the weekend in the "country" stop and ask if George was male. I said he was, and she tells her friend to "quick - help me"....I am not too sure about this, so am trying quickly to load 4 dogs into a Ford Contour. I turn back around, and they are pulling a terrified boxer girl out of the back seat of the car! I asked what they were doing, "we just want to breed her before she goes out of heat and you have the best looking male boxer we have seen all day!" I wasn't sure if I should laugh or scream at them! "Sorry, he hasn't had anything capable of producing pups in over a year." They grumbled something about "ruined dog" and loaded theirs back in the car. I got the plate number though and called my friend who was on call @ animal control this weekend. She couldn't believe it either - these people down here sometimes will do ANYTHING to make a buck, but have no common sense when it comes to having a dog.

Perhaps your rude man thought Boxers were stupid because HE couldn't train them......it takes one smarter than the dog they are trying to train to be successful......LOL

Too bad you couldn't have loaded this poor girl into your car too, so you could find her a LOVING home that loves her and not the money she makes for them. smashicon People like this truly make me sick to my stomach. Animals have feelings and just want to be loved! lovicon Grrrrr......you handled it much better than I would have!!!

What amazed me about it was she seemed all in a huff b/c I told her Romie's mom was nearly all white. She said that most white boxers are blind, deaf or "retarded" and shouldn't be bred because they could pass that on to the pups. I was sure to tell her that hip dsyplasia is passed on as well. When she asked why I wasn't breeding her, I told her that I don't have kids & it's just me & her - she's my baby & I wouldn't risk her health because of my ignorance about breeding, let alone would I want to put a lot more puppies out in the world that could possibly go to bad homes. All she said was "Well, that's a shame - she is beautiful. I bet she'd make cute puppies."

You are right - this is the part of the world where every weekend someone new is set up in front of Wal-Mart giving puppies & kitties away. If they'd just spend a few extra dollars on spaying & neutering, we wouldn't have to have pounds & shelters!
