THE other day i found a lump on Busters side we took him to the vets .he felt the lump and said it was probably a lipoma (fatty tumor )he said to keep an eye on it to check for any change in size.has any one ever had any experience like this?should i have insisted it be biopsied? any in put would be greatly appreciated. janet

Lipomas are pretty common not only in dogs but in humans. Rather than do a full biopsy you may want to ask for an FNA (find needle aspirate). This is a very easy procedure and they can withdraw cells through a large gauge needle, put them on a slide and send them to a lab. Lipomas are pretty easy to identify by shape and feel but you may want to check to be safe. Some can grow quite large and they are commonly removed if they interfere with movement or are an eyesore. Depending on the age of your Boxer you may want to just leave it and watch it. You must weigh the risks of anestesia at all times with boxers.

Our 7 month old brindle male, Gator had a lump on his chest last month. We took him to the Vet and he advised us to have it removed as soon as possible since this was the first one and because he was young. We had it removed and had a biopsy done. It was a histocytoma, benign. Now that it is all over, I am so glad we had the biopsy done. We are resting much easier now. I hope everything turns out well for you and your baby.

Gracy had that lump
My baby had that in december. Left chest/rib area. We had it removed with in a week of finding it and also found it was benign. Thanky goodness. I know what you are going through because I went through the same. If your vet continues to not agree I would get a second opinion. I look forward to hearing how it went.

Fatty Lumps
My old boxer Kelly had a fatty lump on her left hip which grew to about the size of a grapefruit over the years that we had her - we had it biopsied and it was just fat - she became too old to really have it removed and it never bothered her - the skin just stretches to accommodate it - she in fact died 17.1.2001 of heart disease and kidney failure at the grand old age of 16. I would certainly agree with the others though that you do get a biopsy - just to be on the safe side.

When Brutus was about 5 months old he developed a tumor on his front leg. He had decided it was quite tasty and kept chewing on it. We had it removed since obviously Bru didn't like it 
It was non-cancerous and he is doing fine.
If it makes you feel better do a biopsy. My boxers are my babies and better be safe than sorry.

Manni's tumor
Hi everyone - heard today that our boxer boy of 2,5 has a tumor on one testicle. It's only the size of a peppercorn and seems not attached to the tissue underneath. But last Saturday when he was checked for skin problems (most likely allergy) I asked the vet to check this lump as well. She took a test and I got to know today that it's a tumor, which needs to be removed. What really alarmed us "parents" is that she claims he must be castrated. I find it hard to believe that this is really necessary. He's had a scar/lump in this place for some time already and another vet told us 1.5 years ago that it's probably only a fatty lump and we should keep monitoring it. But our current vet said today there's no doubt about it - it's a tumor. We'd hate to have our dog's "things" removed as he's a successful showdog and would possibly/hopefully sire some puppies in the future, but at the end of the day the main thing is his well being - he is our baby. I'm thinking about asking to have only the lump cut away with as little damage as possible, and should it prove to be cancer - then we'll have to rethink things. Should we get a second opinion before going ahead? Also I'd rather not go for full anasthesia, as Manni doesn't take it very well (sedation enough?) Any advice welcome.

During our marathon vet visit yesterday with Bru for ear infection and allergies the vet noticed a fatty little tumor on Bru (about the size of a mole). He had a similar tumor as a pup which we had removed. In order to be safe rather than sorry he is having it removed next Tuesday. Our vet has a laser so the procedure should be as simple as zapping it off. If you do get it removed ask about laser since it make the procedure so easy and quick.
Tumor removed
We had another Vet's opinion on the Tumor issue - now the whole tumor (2nd grade skin cancer) has been removed. There was enough skin left to "save the jewels". We're happy to have gotten a second opinion, and now also have a much more understanding Vet. Hoping it won't come back, and that we'll keep our dog healthy and happy for many more years.
