Bumps keep popping up

PLEASE HELP! Chopper (9months old, 70+lbs) cannot get rid of his bumps.

It was a few months ago when it started. Within a few days, Chopper's entire body would accumulate 20-30 bumps. In the right lighting, you could see shadows in his fur from the bumps, plus you could feel them. A couple days after any given bump would arise, it would scab up and peel off. It wouldn't leave a scar, unless it was picked at, which I found out the wrong way.

Each time this happened, approximately 3 times in the last few months, the vet would give him antibiotics, saying it might be a relergic reaction, and they would go away.

Around 45 days ago, he developed the bumps, so I decided to keep him on ONLY chicken (HE EATS RAW DIET ONLY), while the vet gave him 30 days worth of antibiotics. WELL, the antibiotics are up, he still has a few bumps, which originated occasionally over the last 30 days, and he has only eaten raw chicken.

Could he be allergic to chicken? Therefore, should I change to beef only?

Has anyone else experienced these "bumps"?

Going on a fourth schedule of antibiotics cannot be good for him.

By the way, the bumps do not seem to bother him, as far as itching, etc...

I hope to get some good information from any boxer owner...

Ronin used to get bumps on his belly (staph infection) due to an allergy to a type of grass. That said, that's the only place he would break out - not all over his body. It is possible that Chopper is allegric to chicken too. The only way to really find out would be to take chicken completely out of his diet and replace it with some other type of protein like beef or lamb. I hope you can find out what's creating those bumps! I know how frustrating it can be to not know what's causing your baby all the misery. :(

Have you ruled out the yard? Last summer, Cyrus had the same type of bumps, and it was chiggers!! I don't know if you have them in your area, or even this time of year. (?) But we sprayed the yard with insecticide from the garden center, and we have had no problems since, and my dog has smooth fur again.

It does not sound like chicken is the culprit. There are so many environmental allergens out there. My friend's dog is actualy allergic to their carpet. Dogs can be allergic to as many things as humans, so there are dust, mold, pollens, grasses, animal dander/hair, yes I've heard of a German Shepard allergic to horses. The only way to know for sure may be to do some allergy testing with your vet, or with an animal dermatologist. Good luck finding the culprit.

I am not very wise when it comes to yard work/repair. If I go to Home Depot, do I simply ask for an "insecticde" or is there a particular kind you might suggest? We do not seem to have fleas or chiggers, but there may be some type of sand fleas/bugs, due to the ground under the grass is part dirt and part sand (being in Tampa, Florida)

I had to go to the garage for this...
We bought Triazicide soil and turf Insect Killer Concentrate. It is made by Spectracide. I bought it at Home Depot or Walmart, I can't remember which. You hook it to your hose and spray away. The hardest part is keeping people and animals off untill it dries completly. Not only did this stuff kill the chiggers, we didn't have mosquitoes, ants, spiders, june bugs, moths at night, nothing for about a week! And they were greatly reduced for a couple more. It was nice, but since it can wipe out a bug population like that, we keep that in mind and use it sparingly.

Thanks for going to the garage for us! I will mark this stuff down. I decided to take the leaf blower, on high, to the entire yard. This broguht a lot of sand (Florida dirt), leaves and debris to my surrounding cement wall. Perhaps this will help with some allergic problems. I am going to assume a day or two of no rain will be long enough to keep the dogs off of the inescticide.

My 3 year old boxer Levi has had the same problem with the bumps like you describe. Last year in the spring he was on antibiotics for 8 weeks. The vet felt that it was an allergy that turned into a staph infection. At the end of the eight weeks he was free of the bumps. He broke out again this spring and we finished 6 weeks of antibiotics a week and a half ago. As of today his skin is still clear. The antibiotics take care of this problem for him each time. There are a series of shots that can be given to help the boxer's immune system fight off the staph infection better without having to take the antibiotics. If Levi breaks out again we are going to talk with our vet about this. It is something to check into if you continue to have this problem with the bumps.

we had this same problem with Monkey a few weeks ago as well. it started out with a couple bumps and the nape of her neck and I tried putting some aloe/witch vera on it to sooth it and then two days later they were all over her entire body. we went to the vet and got some antibiotics that only seemed to make her vomit. the bumps ended up going away after a few days worth of puke and medication but she still has very dry skin :(

I'm not 100% sure, but we think that maybe it was caused by some cat treats that she had gotten, or less likely from her Timberwolf kibble. We've now got her on an all natural kangaroo and apple kibble that seems very good and she likes it enough (she's a very picky eater) so so far so good I hope!
