Please help! I've taken Zeus to 2 different vets about this and he STILL has these stupid bumps! At first we thought it was puppy acne- but then it spread and he started loosing hair (not from scratching either b/c it's on his chest/chin where he can't reach too well). Anyways, vets both said 2ndary bacterial. Well, he was on antibiotics for 10 days (2 different kinds) and prednizone for 10 days then 2 every 2 days then 1 ever 2 days etc. Well the bumps went away for *maybe* a week and now they're coming back! He doesn't have mange (checked for that) and the bumps are the size of puppy acne but hard and not filled with any fluids (from what I can tell)- BUT before we took him to the vet they did spontaneously just bleed. I dunno what to do! After visiting 2 vets (and a 3rd a year ago about the same thing but it did go away that time) I'm really at a loss. Any idea what it could be? What else could I ask for him to be checked for? He's healthy other than the evil bumps!

check out that thread.. they are showing up in the same places as this dogs.. there is a picture in the gallery of the person who posted.. my first guess would honestly be allergies though if theya re going away with the prendisone.. My dog gets them except all over her body.. all depends on what is being exposed to what part of there body.. Although mines bumps end up getting puss in them.. she is on cephalexin all the time and we only give her prendisone if she gets real itchy because it is a steroid and i dont agree with long term use of them. GL with ur baby

WOW thanks soooo much- that looks exactly like what's going on- his was like that when severe- I cannot thank you enough- very much appreciated!

Here is a site I found very helpful when researching Farley's reoccuring allergy problems. Unfortunately, most vets take the same approach as yours and simply treat the symptoms without treating the underlying cause. As a matter of fact, Farley is now on a two-week series of antibiotics. I was a wimp and did not refuse them at the vets. I am a sucker for doing whatever a person in 'authority' tells me.

In any case, he will not be getting any more antibiotics after this and we will start him on the diet suggested in this link. Please be cautious about continually giving a young dog steroids like prednisone...

Hi,
We are going thru the same thing. Our baby would get these bumps and we went to 2 vets who said they were allergies/hives. We went to a third vet who referred us to a dermatologist and he said it is like a yeast infection actually folliculitis or allergic dermatitis. It sounds worse than it really is. Hopefully once we get the bacteria out of his body it wont come back. Is your babies paws pinkish too? Does he bite at them? How about under his armpits? Well Rocky was put on duck and potatoes food and given 3 meds to kill the infection and stuff. They are called Orbax, Nizoral and Medrol. His first vet gave him prednisone but the dermatologist says that all that does is take the inflammation on the bumps away temporarily. Rocky would get off the prednisone and sure enough the bumps would come back. If I were you I would switch his food to duck and potatoes or something of that sort. NO TREATS. The dermatologist said no treats but Rocky can have all the fruit and veggies he likes. He loves bananas and peaches. It has been one week and he is doing really good. He used to scratch all day long! Life is so much better for him he honestly doesnt scratch but maybe...maybe once a day just for a second which is probably what dogs do anyway. Keep your fingers crossed that this is our cure and I really hope this helped you. Feel free to e mail.

You should try giving Zeus some Flax Oil. It has incredible anti-inflammatory properties and has been known to clear up chronic skin conditions. Please read this: http://www.shirleys-wellness-cafe.com/anutmed.htm#flax
Taking a natural route will be more beneficial for Zeus. Most vets today readily offer drugs, which only treat the symptoms.

This is a recipe I've seen online that has helped dogs with cancer become cancer-free.

1 Tbsp Flax Oil (3 times a day)
You can mix it with 1/2 cup of cottage cheese.

Hope Zeus feels better soon.

Thank you all so much for the help! As far as prednizone we refuse to do over 2 wks and the vet agreed. We will give flax seed a shot :) Thank you all again, it means a lot!

We adopted a female last year and she had some bumps around her neck and on her chest. Her hair started to fall out in these areas and she was scracthing them alot. We went to our vet and she tested for ring worm. She tried all the other obvious tests and wondered if it was allergies then she said let me test for one more thing. It was positive for ring worm. We talked over all of our options and tried some natural vitamin supplements first but we did have to go to an antibiotic after nothing else worked. It was very expensive and we had to do it for almost 2 months but it all went away and in about 5 months all the hair came back. Good luck and be patient it is a long process but it will work out.

Look up Malasezzia

It sounds like your dog is having a reaction to yeast known as mallasezzia. It is a normal flora on dogs skin, mostely on the face neck and ears. My baby Dakoda is allergic to it, I bathe her with a shampoo called Malaseb, and it helped her. Hope all workis out
