We are really concerned right now. We found two bumps on Champ that are being checked out by our vet. I was okay, (not jumping off the roof) until my friend told me about her dog, (a Bloodhound) having cancer. Her description sounds EXACTLY like Champ's bumps. Dark, pea sized and crusty. Our boy is only 2 however we adopted him from a local rescue who SAVED him from a horrible back yard I don 't give a crap breeder. We need some positive vibe for our boy. He is such a lover and clown not to mention bundle of thankful. We will have results next week but please send good thoughts. Love our baby boylovicon

My dog had 3 bumps removed this past summer. However, they were above the skin and fur and "smushy."
Not all bumps are bad bumps.. Boxers are prone to tumors and lumps. You did the right thing taking your pup to the doctor.. All 3 I had removed were benign. They can also drain them to test. So keep your head up and think positive. Good luck and let us know how you make out please!

Just heard from our Vet and of the two bumps removed one was a mast cell tumor, grade 1. Have no experience with this at all so not even sure the questions to ask but will have a list for our next appointment.

It sounds like Boxers are prone to this kind of tumor. I searched BW and I see a lot of posts for stage 2 and 3 but not stage 1. Can anyone share their experience with this?

With a grade 1 tumor, as long as they got clean margins, you should have any further issues. She may never get another one. :)

My first girl Cami had over 16 mast cell tumors in her life. All but one were grade 1's. There are tons of threads here on BW about her cancer journey. If you do a search using my user name "cami", MCT, mast cell tumor and Vetalog you will be able to read about our experiences.

Thank you. I read most of the MCT posts and then some. Your girl went through so much. Makes me so sad...I had to read some funny posts and watch a couple of videos of your girls playing. It just doesn't seem fair that these sweet babies are prone to so many bad health problems. Maybe that is part of the reason they stay so young at heart. I really appreciate you sharing. I know now that we cannot overlook any bumps, lumps even if they seem to disappear. I had read about the histamines but didn't put it together with the itching, so I will pay attention to that, too. Our vet was pretty aggresive with her course of action. She removed both bumps and sent them to a lab. She said normally she would recommend watching but since Champ is a Boxer, it was best to be through. He is doing great right now. Hasn't messed with his stitches at all. He is such a good boy.

My dog...

I understand your concern. After ten great years with my boxer, Duke, I have come to understand he ends up with the strangest things one him. I can't count how many times and vet appointments I have made to come to find out it is "normal" for this breed to have. From what my vet says, it is very common for boxers to have bumps and lumps develope and most of the time they are not cancerous. If you are concerned, the best thing to do is get a pathology taken.
