Bruno&Belle

Boxer Buddy
Hi everyone,
I have really enjoyed reading these forums these past couple of weeks and finally decided to join in. We adopted Belle, a fawn boxer on Memorial Day and she has turned our lives upside down. She was a rescue pup, estimated at to be about a year old. Her foster mom said she was found wandering the streets, skinny and covered in fleas. Foster mom gave her three flea baths just to get all the critters off her and we've gotten her fattened up. She's taking medicine right now for a small case of mange that's left a couple of hairless patches on her - but she's gorgeous. It's hard to believe that anyone would let her go - but with some of her traits (things I know now are just Boxer behavior) I could see how someone might get frustrated and do the wrong thing. My other theory on her becoming homeless is that she jumped the fence and couldn't get home. She's jumped ours twice - a wooden 6' foot fence!
I think she had to be someone's pet because the first thing she did was come in and jump on our bed to make herself comfortable. We have worked a lot on potty training and accidents are getting fewer and far between.
But to start from the beginning, we decided to adopt a boxer because of our 4 year English Bulldog Bruno. We've had him since he was 8 weeks old and have always lived in an apartment. He's been awesome to have in an apartment, but we recently bought a house with a big yard and decided it was time to get him a friend to play with. Some friends of ours have boxers and I've always admired their looks and we wanted a dog that could "stand up" to our bulldog, who's pretty rough and tough.
Let me tell - she stands up to him - and wears him out. They wrestle a lot, and when they're outside, she just runs circles around him. But he seems a lot happier - he's certainly eating more (maybe just so she doens't eat his food.) And Belle lights up our life.
I chose the name Belle for her cause I like B names (obviouslu) with Bruno the Bulldog and Belle the Boxer. But also, Belle is the character in Beauty and the Beast - so she's my Beauty and Bruno's the beast. Hah - my husband always sticks up for Bruno, so don't feel too sorry for him.
Anyway, the first couple of weeks were tough, with Belle destroying quite a few things (my husband's brand new cell phone charger and dock being the most expensive).
And for about three days, they were both completely sick - with the evidence all over our house. The only thing we could figure out was that I got them both new giant bones to chew on - cause their last one broke. I got them in the pet department at the grocery store and Bruno's had a couple in the past and loves them. They both chewed on them like crazy - and then bam - sick the next day. So I threw them out and continue my search for chews/toys that can last more than a few days.
In case you're wondering, we all live in Allen, Texas, a suburb of Dallas.
And, what a great website this is.

Welcome Nicole, Bruno and Belle! What a fun family you have! It is great to hear stories about other people and their babies that is one of the manyn reasons I love BW so much! Looking forward to hearing more from you and hopefully seeing some pics of "beauty and the beast". LOL :)

Good for you for getting a rescue! It sounds like Belle is in the right place, now! I have always felt that dogs, being they are "pack animals" are happier with other dogs around. Right now, though, I'm the one that is feeling drained! I have 3 dogs full time (Roxy and 2 fosters - Bosco and Bain) and one "joint custody" (Ruckus). It is chaotic but I love it! Good luck to you and your babies! You need to go ahead and post pictures, I've always loved english bulldogs! I bet they are adorable together.
