Hello everyone!
Wanted to update on our boxer Bubba! We adopted him in December and will be a year old the end of this month. He's done very well since we brought him home. He was 47lbs when we adopted him and he was not being fed well. He is now a healthy 64lbs last time we checked and STILL growing.
The family loves him regardless of ahem many items that were chewed during his teething stage. he still runs off with anything that falls on the ground that he feels we will chase him for. The treats make him drop it so sometimes I think he does that for that reason only! LOL
Anyhow, I have arthritis very badly and started walking and light jogging recently with my 16 yrd old to help me out. I actually enjoyed it. My daughter is a soccer player and gave me good tips. On our 3rd visit to her high school -we around the school perimeters we brought Bubba with us. Its relatively quiet and everyone at the school leashes their pets. He loved it. 2nd visit he was feeling great. 3rd time he went with just me b/c my teen was feeling a little lazy so stayed in. I'm glad she did. We hit the school around 730 pm so it was cooler and Bubba was so happy. He's very good about listening to me and loves seeing all the other doggies. I make sure he stays focused and keep him jogging so he has no time to get in trouble with kitties or small dogs. He LOVES them but they dont always love him. They get nervous so I walk on the opposite side to keep the owners at ease and the little dogs not so nervous.
Well, we were finishing our 2nd trip and about a block from our car when I suddenly heard a horrible snapping and growling. I turned and screamed! I about jumped 5ft outta my skin.it was a very angry pitbull barreling across the street! He was halfway across the street about to reach the sidewalk where we were at. We never saw him coming. We try to be as alert as possible but he literally came outta nowhere. There were cars coming and they slowed down. Two cars stopped but were scared to get out. Bubba immediately jumped in front of me and lunged at him. I pulled him back because I thought my God I know Bubba is a big boy but he's still my pup!! The pit snarled at him and kept circling around him...kept trying to get close to his neck. It was terrifying. But Bubba acted so different. He never snarled, he lunged twice snorting but was quiet as a mouse. He never barked. He kept moving around with the pit never letting him get close to him or to ME! He was very fast my big boy. I dont know what happened but for whatever reason the pit turned around and LEFT!! I thought I'd surely suffer heart failure!! Another car had been honking at him but the pit was fixated on my dog at that point and never turned.
The police came in what seemed like eternity...five minutes. The officer laughed when he saw my stout fellow sitting on the front seat of my car with the a/c blasting. He said .."Umm ma'am? That's your pup? That's quite a pup..he's got some girth...a big puppy!!" Cops went looking for the pit. But he had no tags, no collar. A big problem in my part of Texas. Lots of breeding of pits and being mistreated and fought. :( Lots of children mauled and adults as well. Very sad and frightening.
So I'm getting some pepper spray. We went out another time different area and now Bubba acts differently. Happy but he turns around behind me often as we exercise. Arthur said it's because Bubba feels he let his guard down once and it wont happen again. So lets just say our Bubba had steak, chicken, and hamburger patties that week! I'm so relieved he wasnt hurt. He's so beautiful. I didnt want him full of stitches, scars or mauled. But he seemed like "Aww shucks..I'm here to protect you Momma!" LOL
Kids are still loving their big moose of a dog. Arthur is super happy that he has taken such good care of the kids and his wife..
