Greetings to all --
It has been a while since I have been here in BW. Not since we lost our boxer girl Chloe to lymphoma 4 yrs ago. She lived a whole year with chemo and had a great quality of life until the last 3 weeks she was with us. She passed in her sleep (on our bed) with her tail wagging like she was seeing someone she loved and hadn't seen for a while. I knew it was her brother (littermate) ChiChi, who had passed 3 yrs earlier at the age of 6 from cardio-myopathy. I was glad the Lord allowed me to see this "passing" from one world to another. Did I mention that day was also my birthday? Strange as it was, I was reassured where she was going and that he was there to "pick her up". I was laughing thru my tears!
Sadly now we find out that our 5 yr old beautiful brindle boxer Bubba is now battling lympgoma as well. We are still awaiting some test results as to whether it's 'b' or 't' cell. And it seems we have caught his a little sooner than Chlo's. This time our vet reffered us to an oncologist in Atlanta to get the whole picture. We took him, and tho expensive, we now know exactly where to focus his treatment. One thing he has started with (that Chlo never had) is the hypercalcemia. I have tried putting my mom's diapers on him, but his little hinny just slips out of them. So we have a lot of waterproof bed liners all over the place. After his last test on thursday, he got a dose of Lspar (a chemo drug) and is taking 3 (!) prednisones every morning. My icemaker can't keep up with hiim! HE starts chemo - the Madison protocol - next thursday with our regular vet cause it is so much closer. This should really knock back the hypercalcemia.
Now, the main reason I am telling you this, is that with Chloe, we did the pred and the chemo. This round we are determined to fight it with everything there is, especially immune modulation therapy. I was told my a close friend about a company called BirkDale Medicinals (you can find them on the web). They have products (food and supplements) and even have a plan specificly for treating lymphoma in dogs. My friend and several others she knew had great results with their products in fighting cancer in their animals - and didn't even use chemo - and their pets are all 100% cancer free. Bubba's first "critical care" pkg arrives tomorrow.
I hope this helps anyone who's beloved boxer has cancer. I will keep you up to date with Bubba's progress. May God give you all the strength and stamina you will need to give our fur babies the best quality of life they deserve. Keep up the good fight!
