Brushing Teeth

I made my first attempt at brushing Cornelius' teeth this morning. I don't think it went that well - he just seemed like he wanted to suck on the toothbrush to get the beef flavored toothpaste. I'm not even sure I got a tooth! Oh well, at least I got the darned toothbrush in his mouth. Maybe next week .....

That's what Grumpy does too, just wants to eat the toothpaste. I'm lucky if I get two teeth brushed in an attempt. Beef was her favorite flavor, right now we have peanut butter toothpaste, which she also views as a snack. At least they like it, right?

You might find that a finger brush is easier to wield than a toothbrush. Slightly messier for your hands, but usually much more effective

I have the finger brush and it works wonders. Sometimes I have to be a little quick but once I get my finger in there it goes great. Not very expensive. I got mine at petsmart. Now they just run when they see it. They love having their teeth brushed.

I have the finger brush also, and Ozzy is so used to it now he just lets me get on with it!

I'm so glad to hear I'm not the only person who intends on doing this! I mentioned it in front of a neighbor the other day and got, "You're going to brush your DOG'S teeth? Are you nuts?"

The finger brush is the best way to go.

I started my two with the finger brush, and once they figured out what I was trying to do and began behaving, we graduated to a regular tooth brush. I'd say definatly start with the finger brush, though.

finger brushes rule! oh and my three dogs are addicted to dental floss. I need to get a video of the three of them lined up waiting to get flossed. it is hillarious or when all of them grab a strand at the same time. Charlie is particularly bad for getting a treat between his teeth and randomly drooling (he generally doesn't drool) so I found flossing works wonders not only to deter the random flooding but also the stinky breath.
