I am in need of a good type of brush for my Ciera (17m). She is shedding and I am not fond of what the person at the local pet store suggested. It is a metal tear drop shape thing with a handle that has jagged "teeth" on it. She does not seem to like it and it just does nto work well for either of us. Any suggestions?

We use a Zoom Groom on Apollo. It has rubber bristles and he thinks he's getting a massage! It's very easy to clean also. It was recommended by our local pet supply store. The only problem is when Apollo thinks it's a chew toy.

Kara, I have the same comb and it works great! I don't brush hard but very gently and it collects lots of hair. If your not comfortable using this style of comb they do have plastic ones.

What they showed you is a metal stripper. Don't use it as it will damage the hair and can scratch the skin on boxers because their coat is so fine. Anything rubber works well as rubber grabs hair and loose hair will cling to it. Vacuuming them works, too and you can get vacuum brush attachments from many catalogs. My favorite is a rubber hand mitt that has little rubber pimples on it. Not only does it get up loose hair well, but it also massages the dogs and they love it. Having carpel tunnel syndrome, it's also nice to not have to hang onto a brush.

I also use the rubber glove with the nubbies on it to brush Kailee. It was recommended to me by a breeder at a show for our male a few years back, and I am sooo glad I listened. Jeanne is right, it gets the hair, massages the dog and brings the much needed oils to the fur. I could not live without one now!!

I have a little rubber curry brush. It fits on my hand and it's like I am petting her. It's called the love glove and is available at Petco.com It works great!

I have a soft rubber curry comb; it looks just like a horse's curry comb. It does a great job getting the loose hair, but isn't really sharp and unbending like a metal one would be.
