Brothers playing...

Greeting to all, I'm a newbie. We just got Rooney, a 10 wk old male fawn, last Saturday. From what I've read here, he must be extremely well mannered. He doesn't mind his crate and with the exception of one accident, he doesn't mess in his crate. The house, that's another story but we're working on that.

Anyway, his littermate brother lives next door. We let them wrestle around and play with each other some in the evenings. Is this an OK thing? We don't want to get something started that will cause problems down the road.

As far as playing with his littermate next door, it is perfectly fine and, in fact it is a good idea to let him socialize as much as possible

i don't see anything wrong with them playing with each other from time to time. as a matter of fact that would be very good for the both of them, especially since they each live at different residences, be it next door.
the only times problems sometime occur is when two pups from the same litter are taken into the same home and not given individual training, affection, and attention along with their group training, affection, and attention.

I think its a good thing too. It's always good to socialize you puppy. Especial with another boxer since they seem to play the same way. Some dogs don't like it. The one thing I'd worry about is the vaccinations. at 10 wks they wont have all the vaccinations they need and could get something from the other one....just a possibilty. I could be wrong

Sorry Courtney, I didn't pick that up when I read through the rules. The intro is posted. Also, we found out Rooney is 13 weeks old, not 10.

Bensen LOVES playing with his brother. They don't see each other as often now since my boy doesn't stay in the yard without a fence and his brother does and putting them both in the house is well.............loud and messy. With all the talking they do and the chasing each other round and round. When they were pups they didn't wonder off too far so it was easier. But on the occasion that they are together they couldn't be happier. There is definitely nothing wrong with letting the kids play together. Let them have fun, it's good for them. Socialization and great exercise.

Absolutely let him play with his brother - as often as possible! Socialisation is extremely important for puppies. It is through playing with others that they learn things like bite inhibition and how to interact correctly with other dogs. Most people have to teach a certain amount of that themselves, and otherwise rely on puppy kindergarten classes or adult dogs at a dog park to socialise their pups. Having another puppy nearby (littermate or not doesn't matter) for him to play with gives you a significant advantage
