My boxer, 5 month old puppy, strider recently took a rough fall from our living room couch. He must have landed wrong or something because he broke the four bones going to his toes on his left foot. The vet recommended surgery but I couldn't afford the 2600 dollar pricetag that came with that. I feel really bad, the vet says that with his bones if reset and put into a cast will probably heal incorrectly. Is there anyone else who has expericenced this. any help would be appreciated.

Have you talked to the Vet about a payment plan or checked prices at another Vet? If that fails you could call your local Boxer Rescue and see if they will take him. I do not think NOT casting the foot is fair to the pup.

Money issues are tough but if it means your dog may be disfigured I think I would try anything to figure out a way. Your dog could end up with horrible arthritis to say the least. Some vet's offer credit or payment plans, or you might have to as bad as it sounds give him over to a rescue so he can get the care he needs. Sorry about your trouble but sometimes being a responsible pet owner means you have to drop alot of $$$. Good luck.

I totally agree with dozersmommy, I am sure that you will find a way round this, good luck.

Isn't there any places that help people with pets who can't afford vet bills where you are?

Meanwhile you really should get insurance.

Ask your vet about a payment plan.

Can you get a credit card just for this bill?

You need to work something out & fast, because that little mite is hurting.

Dogs can work out very expensive sometimes, that's why it's vital to simply pay that small amount of money every month to an insurance company. ;)

There was another member in a similar situation and I posted the following information that you may find helpful -

You may want to call up some of your local shelters and/or the Humane Society - some operate or know of local subsidized veterinary clinics. If you do not have a charge card, you may want to check out Care Credit (www.carecredit,com/patients/whatis.htm for the phone number to call to find a participating vet in your area) or the following links and organizations:

American Animal Hospital Association AAHA
www.aahahelpingpets.org/home/

The Animal Foundation

Pet Fund

Good luck and do keep us posted ~ Cathy
