Bringing home baby

What are everyone's thoughts on two males together? My Teddy is 7 and we will be bringing home our new boy Maximus next month. Teddy gets along well with everyone, dogs, cats, people, guinea pigs....I'm just worried that there may be dominance issues with two males of the same breed?

A male/female combo is typically the best scenerio. Then male/male. Lastly, and not suggested with bullies, female/female.

If you can give the carer of the pup a towel or rag that they can wrap the pup in for a few days, you can retreive the towel/rag and bring it home for your boy to gather scent of the new pup. This allows him to get to know the pup before he even meets him in person.

Great idea about the blanket. I will definitely do that - thanks! The breeder is only a few minutes away, and we are actually going for another visit this weekend, so that will be perfect.

I just saw you are from PA......please tell me the breeder's last name isn't Zook, Miller or Buckwalter.......gotta watch out for Amish puppy millers! LOL I'm from Lancaster County, right in the midst of these horrible millers. I am seeing tons of "Boxer's for sale" signs all over right now......all are either Amish or Mennonites. So upsetting.

Yes! I am from western pa, though. I didn't know there were Amish puppy millers. That's awful! When I was looking for a breeder, I did notice a lot from the Lancaster area.

I have lots of pictures on my phone. As soon as I figure out how to post them, I will!

I would love to share my breeder's name with you. They are wonderful. And she has puppies available in Maximus' litter. But I think the forum rules prohibit it. I don't want to get banned!

Great idea Lisa! The female/female combo usually doesn't work out. I haven't heard many complaints on male/male combo. If you think the personalities are good for each other then go for it. Just do a ton of research on keeping 2 males together. You should be fine, Teddy sounds like a great dog who'd love to have a friend.
