Hello everyone,
It's been awhile since I've been here!! I have a 4.5 year old female (brindle) boxer named Angel...My BF and I have decided to bring home a little brother for her. We haven't actually chosen the puppy out of the litter yet, we are doing that this weekend. We have decided on a male for obvious reasons, but there is one thing I am a little apprehensive about. Angel has a dominant side, especially with other dogs. She's always been ok with puppies, but they've never lived with her before. What are some of the best ways for that initial introduction and first few days?? I am expecting an adjustment period for everyone, I just want to try and make it go as smoothly as possible. Any advice, suggestions or ideas would be fabulous!!!

First of all, congratulations on getting a new puppy! And, more than likely it will go better than you think. My Roxy is the same way, she can get kind of grouchy around other dogs. But, she is great around my fosters and puppies. It's almost like they can sense the other dog being "weaker" and not a threat. If they have problems, it will probably be later in life, when your pup reaches an age where he would try to raise his place in the "pack". Good luck and please keep us updated!

Congrats on the new puppy. I would introduce them on neutral territory and then give them a few days of adjustment. Maybe before you actually bring him in the house, you could bring a blanket or towel that smells like him to Angel for her to smell and get used to. It may help. I would also supervise them together at all times.

I don't think you should have any problems. Our Mya could be aggressive to other adult dogs that she was not familiar with, but always welcomed a new pup into the fold. Her maternal instincts kicked in and she treated each new addition as her own. Good luck and congrats on the soon-to-be addition ~ Cathy

Thank you for all of your advice and congratulations!!! I think the introduction on neutral territory is a great idea, as well as the blanket smell!! I am 99% sure Angel will be fine, but there is always that little doubt in my mind, just because she has been agressive with other adult dogs in the past. I am SOOOO excited to go and pick the pup out of the litter this weekend!! Apparently they are all brindle, (some of them are almost a reverse brindle) and Angel is brindle as well, so they will look good together!! Yippeeee!!! Hahahahaha
Another question for you, Angel sleeps on my bed with me, because she has earned that privilege, I was planning on having the puppy in a crate IN my bedroom so that I can keep an eye and ear out for him. That's not going to make Angel think that he has the same "status" in the pack as her is it?
Hugs!
