Re: How much white = flashy?

I have always thought Jack was flashy, but with just white on the chest/nose and toes, is he plain? I thought any white markings made a boxer flashy.

I would consider Jack to be classic (HATE the word "plain" LOL) to semi-flashy - more on the classic side though. He does have a bit on his nose and chest, but other than that he is a beautiful red.

By contrast, if you look in my gallery at my boy, he is flashy (as are both dogs on the page header) with white on mask, chin, chest, neck and boots/socks on each leg.

That help at all?

:)

Yup!

Thanks Cubby! That helped alleviate my confusion. Basically, it sounds like the chest marking is classic.. and a little on the toes/nose is also classic. When the white markings go beyond the classic chest patch a boxer becomes flashy.

And absolutely, I'm with you, "classic" is much better than "plain" . My baby is anything but "plain" :D

I am with the classic fawn folks! Both ours are classic fawn of the reddish variety. Not much for brindle, don't hate it, just doesn't ring my bells they way a classic with a black face does. To each his own, so follow your own desires on this...

I'd say brindle

We have two kids and they are almost exactly the same color, but 6 months apart in age. Whenever we go to the dog park with them it is almost impossible to tell them apart from a distance. It wasn't so hard when one was 9 months and the other 3 months, but the older they get the closer in size they are becoming. Now I can't tell them apart from far away and I always find myself calling the wrong puppy. Not such and issue if you don't go out in public to let them run around of leash. But if you do, I would suggest having two different coats.

The last male I had - he was a gorgeous deep and shiny red. He had just a little bit of white on his paws and a black mask.

I thought he was sooo beautiful!

I look at these threads and smile - I think we all love these dogs regardless of if they are Fawn, Brindle, Flashy or Classic. They are strong a majestic beings and they fill our lives with love and laughter.

I think it is obvious that we love them all! :D

We have one of each. Kali is classic fawn with black mask. Gia ia a classice brindle with black mask. I loved the fawn look and my husband liked the brindle. Now we have one of each:D . I do like that we have two different looking dogs.

Personally I like all 3 colors, fawn, brindle and white, whether flashy or plain. But if I had to pick, my first choice would be white, then brindle and then fawn, I also tend to lean towards plain as opposed to flashy, but at the end of the day they are all beautiful and I think a choice should be based on the personality of the dog not the color.

Which ever you choose I am sure you will be happy with your choice.

Well I have two flashy brindles!! One is a light brindle and the other is a dark brindle.

So I guess I say if you already have a red then get a brindle, they are beautiful!!

Good Luck
