My mother said they give their Chihuahua Brewers Yeast tablets. She say's that this keeps the fleas off their dog. Has anyone ever heard of this?

Absolutely :) Brewers yeast is a natural flea repellent that a lot of raw feeders and those who're anti-chemicals use to keep fleas/ticks at bay. Garlic is another.

Yup- Brewer's Yeast/ Garlic tablets are good for coat, skin and repells fleas. You can get them online at Dr Fosters and Smith or from Pet Egde.com. Pretty cheap and Luka thought they were tasty :)

Yes, the bottle will tell you how much to give:)

I bought a bottle of Brewer's Yeast (with garlic) at PetSmart last week. I bought the larger tablets, you give one tablet daily for every 50 lbs. of the dog's weight. They also sell smaller tablets but I don't know the dosage for those. I think I paid around $8.00 for the jar I got.

I don't know about the brewers yeast and cats but cat's can't have garlic! A lot of the brewers yeast tablets in pet stores are a combo of that and garlic.

You can also find Brewers Yeast cheaper if you look in the people vitamin/supplements. Same stuff - no pet gimmicky pricing like at the petshops.

Any of the human vitamins and supplements can be given to pets. You just need to read the bottle and compare strengths and dosage etc. And nine times out of ten they will be alot cheaper and possibly better because human products have more quality control and higher standards.

Dog foods companies brag how they use human grade ingredients in their products so why not use human grade supplements. :)

We use to give brewers yeast to Luke, along with garlic. I still give him the garlic once in a while. I read somewhere that some dogs have allergies the yeast and we had an allergy situation so we had to eliminate some things to figure it out. (I just got the brewers yeast powder from the health food store and put chopped up cloves of garlic in his food)

But we had a tough problem with some fleas a few months ago. The only thing that I think got rid of them was bathing him and leaving the shampoo on for a couple mins and lots of vacuuming. We used an organic flea shampoo called DeFlea. Its suppose to be gentle enough to use all the time. But what I think really got rid of them was the cold weather that showed up!
