Hi all, I'm new to the board as well as boxer ownership. I acquired a 4 year old female boxer who is very agressive with our other dogs as well as my family.

My question to the group is:
Will she mellow out if I breed her once and get her fixed? Or would getting her fixed without breeding work? Or am I just out of luck in calming her down?

Thanks,
Jim

Dogs don't need to breed to calm down. Getting her fixed will likely help with moodiness. While she si there the vet can check her for any other conditions. Some dogs sufferign with chronic pain will show aggressive signs, maybe there is a medical reaason behind her attitude. Is she mostly inside, or mostly outside? Do you have any idea what her background is?

The only reason to breed ANY dog is that they are a superior example of the breed that has also been health tested. Please try to find the reason behind the agression and get your girl spayed asap.

PS I notices that this was your first post. I hope you realize that your first post is supposed to be in the Introduction section. I would go do that asap. It is important to respect the rules of Boxerworld. You would have gotten an email saying such when you first enrolled. Anyways, good luck and have fun here. You can get a lot of good information.

Agressive dogs should never be bred as you stand the chance of making bringing more aggressive dogs into the world and that would be irresponsible since breeding should only be undertaken to better the breed. For her health it would be best to have her spayed.
