Boxer Pal
My husband and I's Boxer is just over a year old and a friend of my husband approched us about breeding him with their bitch. My husband thinks that it would be okay...but I feel uneasy about the whole situation and want to say "no". I am not sure if I am just really overprotective of our little man...or if I am overreacting. I have many concerns and I am looking for a little help. (any articles would be great)

First...the Bitch (4 years old...never been bread) is in heat right now, therefore they want an answer yesterday and I don't want to rush into thing. I know that there needs to be testing (and perhaps other thing I am unaware of), What kinds of testing should be done and how long does that stuff take?

Second...My boxer is 1 year and 3 months....is that old enough to breed? I feel like he is still a pup!

Third...Even though I am not responsible for selling the puppies to good homes I still feel responsible...how would I ensure that the bitches owner send the puppies to good/loving homes?

Fourth...My feeling is that they are backyard breeders and are selling the puppies as a hobby and money rather then increasing the value of the breed (this is my number one concern). Are ALL backyard breeding situations a bad deal? How do I ensure they are not backyard breaders?

Fifth...If we are going to breed how do I ensure the safety of my dog?

Sixth...My dog has never mounted anything in his life! How will he know what to do, and how to do it safe.

Seventh...The bitch lives with a stud, but has never let him bread her...is this a bad sign?

Last...what are your thoughts and experiences? My bottom line is that I don't want to do it (I have been about nutering from the beginning), but I have to tell my husband why so that he can go back to his friend and tell them why.

Sorry about all the questions, but I really appreciate everyones help and suggestions.
Thanks!!
