If i was to breed my boxer but he has epeisily do you think this could be passed on because his mum never had it and none of his brither or sister do do you think it would be passed on to any of his pups Any ideas

I think this is a terribly bad idea. Of course one would NEVER consider breeding any dog with such a major health problem as epilepsy. Please do a search on breeding and you will see that it is a huge topic of discussion here and you will find thousands of different threads on responsible breeding. Breeding a dog with epilepsy would be the epitome of irresponsible.

His epilepsy started at 4mos. i was still young, and watching my adorable little puppy go thru violent convulsions, losing control of bowels and what not was a horrible experience. (not only for me, but my family too) we spent TONS of $$$, and my cocker was on heavy meds to control the seizures all his short 6yrs of living. i could not imagine the thought of possibly putting another family through this. PLEASE get your pet neutered.

Because idiopathic epilepsy or a predisposition to epilepsy might be inherited, neither epileptic animals nor their first-degree relative should ever be used for breeding. Our Mya (now at the bridge) was epileptic, and I would never want another animal and/or pet owner to go through what she/we did. I strongly advise you to get him neutered. - Cathy

It's not as easy has as you all say I was going to have Bruce neutred but can't due all of the medication he was on and i was only asking a question i would not do anything to hurt Bruce I lost my son 4 months ago a nine year old and Bruce is all we have left. I just didn't know if it was heredity but now i do i wont even dream of breeding.I was very sad to hear about the cockiel spaniel Its like our Bruce he is on loads of medication he has to have 10 tablets a day and 2 traqulzers and were still at the vets every fornight we have been since he was 4 month we're there tonight he is now 11 months and the worst thing is when he's not having these viloent fits he's so lively He's perfect in every other way The cockiel spaniel that you had did that pass away at an early age due to the fits
