I am not sure if there's a misconception about boxers and being hyper or if it's over exaggerated. I was recently reading a book that had a list of dogs energy and exercise requirements and it had labs and golden retrievers on a higher list than boxers. My boxer is just right when it comes to jumping around, which I don't think she's hyper, but more that she loves to play.
I've heard from a few people that once you get a boxer you always want another boxer. My wife is actually thinking that maybe a second boxer would be great, because she loves Roxy so much.
I think labs are great family does and very very sweet dogs and seems to be very popular. They seem to be a lot more work than boxers as far as energy requirements and the males are just so big. For some reason people seem to put boxers on the large breed lists, which if they weigh 50 pounds I can pick them up no problem. Well my brother in law has a lab that's about 100 pounds and even though I can pick him up myself, it's very hard because if he wiggles it's difficult and I feel like I'm hurting him trying to pick him up. Well to put his lab in his SUV basically takes two people to pick him up. A very sweet dog, but as you said each his own and I really love boxers.
I guess it's that they are sweet dogs, good watch dogs, good with children medium shedders....nothing much to complain about except it would be nice if they lived 30 years
