Some good news for Gus

Hi all,
Gus was still pretty bad yesterday and we took him to a wonderful vet who has been certified in chinese accupuncture. She worked on him for 14 minutes and we could tell an immediate difference. He was more alert, walked better and even played ball with me for a couple of minutes. Playing ball is one of his favorite things to do. If you all are familiar with Kentucky basketball and Rick Pitino (former coach) who was very intense, we sometimes called Gus "little Rickie":). Anyway, he ate well and got up with me when I was getting ready for work. He couldn't do that yesterday.
We are going to get him another treatment next week or sooner if he starts to fail again.

Thanks to all of you for your kind support. You, of all people, know what it means to a Mom with a sick baby.

lSo sorry to hear about Gus. My thoughts and prayers go out to you. A few years back I had to have my 12 yr. old poodle put down. I still miss him but know he is in a better place. Only those who have loved and lost can understand.

Update on Gus

Thanks to all of you for your kind notes. Gus is now back to where he was before accupuncture. He is sleeping a lot and would not raise his head up for me this morning before I went to work. My husband is with him, he is retired.

How do you know when it is time to let him go? He still eats, he still walks around slowly. He is very grouchy towards the other guys. He is losing some coordination in his front legs and head. He looks like he feels bad. The Dr. said he looked depressed, which I am sure he is.

I don't want him to suffer, but how bad does he have to get for us to let him go? I don't think his quality of life is good right now. Before this week he would have a couple of bad days and then he would run through the kitchen and play. He hasn't felt much like playing and his little tail is not wagging. We used to joke that we could generate electricity by connecting to his tail.

Thanks for listening. You all are wonderful.
Pray for us.

Thank you,
Tina

Tina I'm so sorry to hear Gus isn't doing well. I've always heard that they will let you know when it's time. You can see it in their eyes. I pray for strength for you and your family. ((hugs))

Yeah, you will know when it is time. After the two seziures Cody laid there and didn't move. His eyes were open but he just looked at me like "mom help, I am ready."

I hope he gets stronger though and you don't have to make that decision.

prednisolone have helped woody who is in similar situation

I am sorry to hear about you situation, my boxer, woody is neary 10 and 3 weeks ago started to get sesures out of the blue, he had an MRI and we discovered a brain tumor under his barain. we were told that he can live with this sitution for a while, and i hope this is the case for you. At the moment he is taking prednisolone, which are steriods which help to prevent any furthur growth... they are anti-inflamitaries. Since his attacks he has been fine and taking them has only caused him to drink and wee more.. besides that he is the same boxer he always was!! i hope maybe this can help you.. all the best!!!

He will tell you in his own way. Pandora told us. When they cant do the things they love and the things that make them happy it is time. If he is just going thru the motions of life then he may be more uncomfortable then he lets on.
You will know in your heart. Best wishes, my prayers are with you.

With Magic it was so hard for us to know what to do as every little thing she did, that reminded of us when she was healthy, would give us hope. Now that she is gone and the fog has lifted, I can see how truly sick she was during her last 4 months. The medicine she was on (steroids) gave us a lot of false hope. I knew it was time when she looked deep into my eyes with a kindness I will never, ever forget. She had fallen down and wet herself it was at that very moment, I knew, I was keeping her alive for me. She love me so much that she was trying to please me clear up to the end. Your baby will help you with the decision...you'll know.

I am very sorry to hear what you are going through with Gus. I am currently dealing with one dog & mast cell tumors and I hate being stressed. I think it is because they cannot just come out and say I don't feel well, or this hurts. I am thinking of you guys and praying that you will be strong and Gus will let you know when he can no longer stay. Your family is in my prayers.
