Just had to brag a little more about my furbaby. Jewellee won her class again today (9-12 month puppy bitch) against 5 puppies. This is her third win! And to put icing on the cake she got pulled for a second look in winners. I couldn't go because I had to work :mad: but I was told that the judge pulled another girl and Jewel for a once around and the other girl got winners. So there was something this lady liked about my baby! :p I'm just so proud!!!

There's another show tomorrow and I'm handling her :rolleyes:

P.S. Hopefully J will get winner or reserve soon so what's the next step???? (still very new at this) There would be winners dog -- winners bitch -- and reserve, right? Do those three compete for best of breed? HELP!

I just hate when they pull you for a second look and don't get picked. So close, the nerves just go nuts.

I believe it's the Specials(allready have their championships) Winners Dog and Winners Bitch that compete for Best of Breed.
Best of Breed is considered 1st place(goes to Groups after that)
Best of Winners and then Best of Opposite Sex(opposite sex of Best of Breed),for 2nd and 3rd .
Best of Winners can also be the winner of Best of Opposite Sex.

Reserves is still a great accomplishment, but only go back in if the winner fails to show up.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong PLEASE, I'm still new too and get so confused as to when I'm supposed to be in the ring.

OK:

Specials, Winners Dog and Winners Bitch go back into the Best of Breed competition. Whoever gets Best of Breed goes on to Groups. If one of the Winners takes BOB or BOS, they are automatically also Best of Winners - if neither one takes those, a BOW is chosen from the two. This is important because BOW gets the highest number of points available from the classes that day. So if, for example, there is a major in bitches but not in dogs, and the dog goes BOW, he gets the major, too. If a class dog (one of the Winners) goes BOS, they get points for the number of dogs defeated in the classes *plus* the number of Specials in Best of Breed Competition. So say there are 20 class dogs and 6 Specials dogs present, and you need 24 dogs for 3 points. The Winners Dog would get 2 points. If he goes BOS, he gets 3 points because there were then 26 dogs competing. Now, lets say there were 5 Specials bitches entered, and you need 30 dogs for 4 points. If the Winners Dog goes BOB, he gets to add the number of both the Specials dogs and Specials bitches, which would be 30 (20 class + 6 SD + 4 SB) so he'd get 4 points.

OK, that got way off topic....WD/WB compete for BOB, BOS, BOW.

Reserve is like first runner-up in the Miss America Pageant. If for any reason the Winners Dog/Bitch cannot perform his/her duties (in other words, the award is revoked for some reason - it has happened!), then the Reserve Winner would get the points. (This usually happens after the show is over, though, so the Reserve doesn't get to compete for BOB/BOS/BOW.)

Ok, Now I'm confused.
I understand BOB,BOW,BOS but am confused about the "extra" points. I didn't realize there were extras, I thought points were only at the WD and WB level.
At Cash's last show(small show-1point) He was WD and BOW, HAD this been a much bigger show, he would have gotten extra (besides his WD points) for being BOW, since he also deafeated more Specials and Bitches?

Geeze, so much to keep track of.
Guess I need to go back to the AKC site and read about points AGAIN.

It's very confusing.

Points are only available to class dogs. Specials are finished Champions and already have all the points they need. (Well, as far as the AKC is concerned, anyway )

Winners Dog gets points based on the number of class dogs shown. Winners Bitch gets points based on the number of class bitches shown. Best of Winners gets the highest number of points awarded between WD and WB. (You'll see why that distinction is important later.)

Ex. 1 - WD = 2 pts, WB = 1 pt. Dog goes BOW. Dog gets 2 pts, bitch gets 1 pt.

Ex. 2 Same scenario, bitch goes BOW. Dog gets 2 pts, bitch gets 2 pts.

The points are not "added on" to the number of points earned for Winners. In the second example above, the BOW bitch would not get her 1 point *plus* the two points awarded in dogs - she simply gets the higher number of points awarded from the classes that day.

BOW does not defeat any Specials. And you wouldn't care about the number of bitches defeated, only about the number of points available in bitches. (Which in a sense means you have to care about the number of bitches, but not really.)

For BOB and BOS, you care about the numbers. For BOS, you get points based on the number of class entries plus the number of same-sex Specials. For BOB, you get points based on the number of class entries plus the number of Specials of both sexes.

Just to add some confusion If the WD goes BOS and thus gets 3 points (because there were x amount of Specials dogs entered), and the WB goes BOW, she'll now get 3 points - the highest number of points awarded between WD and WB that day.

Thank you everyone for the congrats. Today however, wasn't so good. I did terrible and Jewellee paid for it. I'm just too new to be handling her in shows right now. Puppy matches are another thing. I'm not giving up mind you. I'll be continuing the handler's classes with her and working with her at home but the young man that did so well showing her yesterday (Saturday) will be handling her for us the rest of the shows we have scheduled. If I have an epiphany and suddenly get better I may try again at a show later in the year. But I can't see penalizing Jewel because I don't have it together. I'll keep you all updated as we go along.

I can relate. I had to show my boy last Fri. because his handler's flight was delayed, and he got 5th out of 5 (the other 4 were handled professionally). He made up for it by going WD/BOW at a Boxer Specialty today, but that was because his handler was on the job! I am determined not to give up, though. One of these days I will put points on one of my dogs! Keep up the practice, everyone has to start somewhere!
