Does anyone know why Boxers (I have two of the little "killers") are on the Massachussetts dangerous dog list. I am nervous because home insurance companies are talking about not insuring homes with dogs on the list. I don't want to move out of state because of the stupidity of the insurance industry! I am willing to pay more money if i have too. My kids are the love of the nehboirhood and this really kills me! Does anyone know what the deal is?

Well I live in WA and we have the dangerous dog list also but Boxers are not on it. Have you seen the list yet? My insurance company makes us claim dogs if they are over 100lbs I guess they consider big dogs a liability! I think that is pretty funny because the big dogs aren't the ones you should worry about it's the yappers that will bite;)

I would do a search for *Insurance* and you will find a couple of past posts regarding this issue. I know here in CA where I am an insurance agent boxers are on the list for the company I work for. The rule with my company is that if we are already insuring your home we are NOT going to cancel your policy. I cannot write NEW customers that have certain types of dogs, including boxers. I don't agree with boxers being on the list but I'm not sure there is anything we can do about it.:(

This is why you want to fight any "dangerous dog lists". Any breed can be placed on a list for any reason. One bad dog can make it tough to own any of that breed.

As I like to say "Ban the deed, not the breed."

As more puppy mills and byb churn out litters of boxers and don't care about temperament, health or the potential home, we will see more of this.

Popularity is the kiss of death to any breed.

Not all homeowners insurance companies have boxers on their list. I know that the one we have now will not renew our policy if they knew we had Molly. They also will not insure German Shepards, Chessies, pits, bull dogs and st. bernards (to name a few). Needless to say I was panicked about our home insurance. I did find that Commerce insurance does not have Boxers on the list. I also talked to my breeder and she uses one other type that does not consider boxers dangerous dogs. You have to shop around. I do wish there was something we could do to stop the prejudice against types of dogs. It really is not fair at all.

OMG........Thanks for mentioning this, I'll have to check into the "dangerous dog list" in Iowa. I think I'm in trouble.........I've got a Boxer AND a St Bernard. LOL
Boy I'm sure glad that someone told me that my Two Babies are dangerous!!:D I can't believe that
I guess insurance companies try to make it rough for us one way or another.

I looked up the information for Pennsylvania and they do not have a dangerous dog list - they declare it by what the dog does
Here is what I got off of the PA law site
Will certain breeds of canines be banned? Upon opting to implement a dog law enforcement program, third class cities become authorized to establish their own dog law ordinances; however, they cannot impose breed specific prohibitions due to Section 507-A (c) of the Dog Law.
Will Act 151 afford greater protection to citizens from dangerous dogs? Yes, Act 151 strengthens the current dangerous dog provisions by clarifying that harboring a dangerous dog is a summary criminal offense and that a dog may be declared a "dangerous dog" as a result of a single attack. In addition, Act 151 requires a dangerous dog to be confined in a proper enclosure from the time the charge is filed through the resolution of any appeal and requires the reporting of incidents in which dogs attack humans

I do not think there should be any such thing as a "dangerous dog list" It's not in the dog itself, its how the dog gets treated!! imo!!
