does anybody know if Boxers are a good breed for weight pulling?
I know their are dogs breed for that but still ive seen pits, and other type dogs do pulling.

Is there a good site for this kind of sport?

Has anybody here ever got their Boxer to do this kind of sport.

I think they would excell since boxers are freaking strong and their muscled like athletes of the k9 world.

As I answered you in another post:

Boxers probably can do some pulling, but like the Rottie and the Pit, they were not designed for it. The true pulling (sledding or carting) breeds - Malamutes, Bernese Mountain Dogs, etc. - are longer than they are tall, and more heavily muscled in the shoulders to allow them to forge ahead. Boxers are balanced front to rear, but require a powerful rear drive to allow them to efficiently pursue game.

APBTs regularly compete in weight pulling now that dogfighting is illegal - the most important traits of an APBT, according to the ABDA, are gameness, attitude, stamina, wrestling ability, and biting ability. Pulling directly evaluates the first three, and indirectly evaluates wrestling ability (as far as evaluating the strength of the shoulders etc.)

The drafting trials that go on I believe are limited to certain breeds (Bernese Mount Dog, Great Pyrenees, Saint Bernard, etc.) as are AKC-sanctioned weight pulls, but non-AKC weight pulls are open to all breeds.

Here are some sites:

re: pulling

Thanks as always for your well researched answers and i do remember you answering them a while back.

I was just trying to find out some more info on the subject

here is a link i found through google

Im thinking of getting my boxer into the pulling for fun.
Why becuase hes freaking strong as heck. how do i know well im 215lbs very athletic+ very strong, lift weights and when i give Jake a command to pull he certainly pulls and i have a hard time holding him so im thinking what better way to condition my dog even further and have fun while we do it! Hes just so well muscled, Jake can put many boxers to shame- Have had other Boxer owners accuse me of giving him steroids or something but I just excercise the sh... out of him every day cause he likes it when he doesnt i dont excercise him. Good quality food is a must and most of all devotion to your dog will bring about the best in your K9

Hes only 1 yr this month so I will certainly take into account his health before I pursue this type of activity

I'd suggest, if you haven't already, that you also teach him a "don't pull" command so he doesn't pull you right off your feet one day :D

The IWPA site I listed below offers trials for all breeds, so that might be a place to start.

Well I know for a fact that, if nothing else Boxxy can pull alot of weight, I had him tied to a 93 metro in neutral one day, at a friends house, I came back out side (after going in to get his water bowl and he had pulled the car about 15 feet, of that was about 3 years ago, he was a lot stronger then

I'm glad i found this forum. I have been having my 50lb female pull me in a wagon for about 2 months now. No doubt about it her hindlegs, lower back and thighs are complete rocks. I have compared them to three other larger boxers and one pit bull that does not pull, and she is by far the most cut, physical looking dog, and she loves it. An excellent website to give you the 101 on the art of weight pulling is pulldoggies.com. I am ordering a harness for my dog from there this week. That site lets you in on all the basics and knowledge needed in order for your dog to get started and continue to practice the sport. With my dog i also do bite work and tons of tennis ball throwing. I run her up and down a large grassy hill in my neighborhood and you cant help but notice her front shoulders and thighs ripping out her clossy coat. I have a homemade spring pole in the backyard that i use with her too. I always hold these homemade shutzhund trials just for fun in my yard. Im only 17 and have had my dog a year in a half. She has so much athletic talent but she's not real mean. also you might check out the american pulling alliance, and the previously listed iwpa. like someone said, their not built as broad as the american bulldogs or the pits, but they can do their fare share. Check out some master weight pullers, the Presa Canarios, at red-star-kennel.com, or some bulldogs at blueriverbulldogs.com, the bulldog site is only 35 min away from my town, i live in Topeka Ks.

has anyone use any supplements to beef up there athletes? I have been looking in to Peak Performance 2 made by APRL. Does anyone know if these kind of supplements are safe for dogs. Peak Performance 2 contains creatine and protein along with other supplements that supposedly increase the muscle and mass of your dog. Most of the ingredients are stuff that alot of normal human bodie builders would use at the gym so if it is safe for them then I would imagine the same for a dog right?

A man asked the vet about these, not exactly this brand ,but something to increase the muscles and mass of his rottweiler and the vet told him that these are not safe and maybe will be the cause of liver cancer
I would never give to my dog something like this
