Does anyone have any suggestions on how to break the habits of having my two boxers sleep with us. It is very sad because I am a newlywed, my dogs sleep with me and my husband sleeps in the guest room.

We get them down when we go to sleep, they each have a bed next to ours. Its as if they know when we have fallen asleep because they jump up and I don't even realize they are there until I get a paw in the face or my husband is on his way to the other room.

Any tips on how to train them to stay down?

You should try crating them at night. You could leave the crates in your room. Your poor hubby sleeps in the guest room. I know mine would not be having that at all.

It's just going to take time and patience. You could crate them, or everytime the jump on the bed...redirect them to thier bed. Good luck!

Haha, good luck! I think crating is the only way to go. We had to buy a bigger bed because the dogs take over the bed. But now when the decide to sleep in the living room we have a hard time sleeping because we all aren't fighting over the covers :) Those dogs have my husband and I trained :)

You dont HAVE to crate them. Is there a way you can tether them to the bottom of the bed? Or to something next to their beds. This allows them to still sleep on their beds, but they cant go roaming :) You can also start to teach them that they can only get up on the bed by invitation only during the day, so it might spill over to during the night too :)

OR you could go sleep in the guest room with your hubby, leave the dogs on your bed

Lola started off sleeping on our bed but unfortunately got a bit too much of a pest & greedy with the space even though we have a king size bed so we made the decision to make her sleep downstairs in the kitchen.
The first night she was down there I felt so guilty and kept waiting to hear her whining but there wasn't a sound. So even though for the first 3 months she slept with us she's fine downstairs and last thing at night she knows the routine and after she's been out to the loo she goes straight to her bed and we all have a comfy nights sleep :)

I'd worry about this being a huge choking hazard. Crate-training would be better all around.
First DH needs to just come to bed. Him being there will make it less comfortable/accommodating for the dogs.
Then I'd get two comfy doggy beds, put them in the bedroom on the floor, then teach them a command like "go to sleep" or whatever works for you so they know that is the expected spot when you say the words. Every time they jump up on the bed, tell them "off" and then "go to sleep," and if needed, gently, calmly, remove them from the bed again, onto the cushions. Treat them every time they comply, as you would when training any new skill.
Chances are, if you and DH do this consistently, they'll get the idea after a night or two. And - they may find it more comfortable than trying to squeeze in with the two of you anyway. Just buy really comfy doggie beds for them to make it even harder to resist.

Doesnt seem like a big hazard to me. Dog tries to jump up, dog cant jump up, dog sleeps in bed for the rest of the night because the floor is uncomfortable. So the dog has to have a collar and leash on? Ive heard of worse ;) Plus the op would be right there if anything did happen.

I'm probably thinking about it in terms of the design of my own bed (scrolled iron bed, lots of tips and also bedposts that a leash/tether could get hung up on). It might not be as big of a concern in other styles of beds. I'm always just leery of dogs being tethered - a neighbor of mine lost a dog to strangulation when they briefly left their dog unattended while tied up to a fence, and came back to find the leash had gotten looped over a rail of the fence, basically hanging the dog (she must have jumped up just the right way). I've been paranoid ever since hearing that! But you're right, this is a bit different. ;)

Ahh i see :D Yeah I was thinking my bed too, just a bed with 4 legs, pretty hard to have anything happen with that. I fully get what you mean tho. Id never leave a teathered dog alone, such sad things happen :(
