boxer's getting too rough with cat

I know I keep posting about problems between my babies, but here's another one:
My Clara is now bigger than my cat and now she's playing with her like she's another dog. At first the cat would play with the puppy and they'd chase each other, but I found the puppy literally chewing on the cat, and the cat was just lying there. Granted, the cat is in heat right now and doesn't care what the puppy does to her, but I don't know how to stop this. I say no to the puppy every time and chase her away from the cat, but this doesn't seem to be working. The cat has these scratch type marks on her ears which are red and losing some of the fur, and I'm not sure if it's because of the puppy, but it definitely could be. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!

With my cat I make sure she has a place to go to get away from the dogs if she has to. I find it hard because Ozzy who is only 5 months old, likes to chase. Sometimes I use a water bottle just to get his attention away from the cat and tell him no.

Oh I have the exact same problem!! Boz is always biting the cats neck, ears, head, and whatever else he feels like biting. I'm scared one of these days Boz is going to bite his neck and shake him and break his neck. I have tried the water bottle thing but Boz doesn't care about it. He even drags the cat across the floor by his ears :( Hopefully they grow out of it. If not I think that will be my excuse to get another puppy :D

My little Josie (cat) and Lucy (boxer) are exactly the same! At first it seemedlike good fun, but now, as lucy grows, it seems she is being more rough...but Josie doesn't seem to mind too much. She can get away pretty good, and run faster than Lucy, and she goes into her "cat" room, or somewhere High where lucy can't her. But if it looks too rough, I usually break it up, and give Josie a better chance to run... I think it will be ok, if your kitty has somewhere to go...she probably loves your boxer so much, and is really just playing anyhow. My josie and Lucy are always snuggled together at night...hee hee!:rolleyes:

kitty door?

Our cat Charley has a kitty door that goes to the laundry room. That is where we keep her food and litterbox. If you put a kitty door maybe it can get away from clara if clara gets too rough. Hope this helps! Good luck

Thanks everyone for the advice. I'm sure all Clara is doing is playing....now the cat.....I'm not so sure. But I would love to put a cat door in but I rent my place so....that's out. My cat just seems mad lately...well for about 2 months since I've had Clara. She meows and yells continously and bites and everything. Guess she's still getting used to the dog...but at night if I go to the bathroom or get up, the cat is purring and very loving. I don't quite understand that. It's during the day that she hates us!

My pug terrorizes my youngest cat too!
My cat fights back and I let them play,
until I think that my pug is playing too rough or
makes the kitty-cat cry, then I break them up.

I grab the doggy, and tell her to stop.
Hopefully one day she'll understand that
the kitty is NOT a toy.

While we were gone one week day some one forgot to lock the pool bath door. One of my boxers opened it(it's not the first time and I don't know how they are doing it) and they caught a cat in the back yard. My oldest got home from school and called me. The conversation went like this. Hey dad, we have a problem here. What's wrong son? There's a dead cat in the living room and there is cat hair all over the house and the back porch.

Now we were never sure how they would behave around cats, but now we know. So I'm just warning you to be careful with your boxers and your cats, I don't think my dogs intentionaly attacked this cat, just got to be to rough and broke it's neck. Sorry to gross any body out but I say better to be safe than sorry.

Bowzer grew up with cats and grew out of tormenting them. My cats have always been around dogs and could care less about them and love to play with them. But when we got Bella...it was a completely different story! I don't think she had been around cats at all (she is our rescue). Well, at first, I thought I would have to watch her constantly to make sure she didn't eat the cats! Pinkus (who doesn't care about anyone or anything, he's very laid back) just sat there and took whatever Bella dished out. I caught her with his head in her mouth (she was just playing, but Pinks didn't like it at ALL). Well, she has given up on Pinkus and now has her attention focused on Roca. Since Roca fights back, it's much more fun for Bella! She loves it! And honestly, Roca doesn't mind it all that much either.

Since you have a puppy, I would just teach him not to mess with the cats. Just keep saying no, and praise her when she backs off or doesn't go after them. I did this with Bella and it helped tremendously! She knows not to touch the cats now, but she can still box the air around them....of course, she has to get the swats to the head from the cats (declawed) which is pretty funny.

How about a baby gate on a room or closet? My Cat Bert was an only baby for 6 years. When we got Lexi - he was not impressed.

18 months later, he tolerates her and even snuggles occasionally. He will tell her off when he's had enough of her bothering him but sometimes just having that safe room with the gate is what he needs. When he's had ebough, he retires to his room.... an she finds something or someone else to hassel.
