Boxers & Children

:D I have only ever had 3 boxers, two of which are still with me. The first one I got was when my daughter was 7 weeks old, and funnily enough so was the dog. I can honestly say that from day dot, I had complete trust in my dog with my child. They would go everwhere together, including the pram. I have recently adopted a beautiful girl whom we knew nothing about, she was dumped and has bought joy to our family. I have only had her for 5 months, but I once again have trust in her. She is loyal and loving. with my daughter she is a best friend to her. I reckon as a family dog, boxers are perfect. Yes they can be hyper, crazy, run around like a chook with it's head cut off, but when it comes to kids, my 2 girls are the bestest friends any kid could have. I know people say you should never trust a dog completly, call me mad but I do. It isnt the dog, it is how we humans train them and lead them in life.:p

HI I HAVE HAD 3 BOXERS ALSO. MY 1ST ONE I GOT ABOUT 1 YR. AGO. SADLY HE DIED AT 11 WEEKS OF PARVO. THAT WAS A HEART BREAKER. THEN ABOUT 5 MONTHS LATER WE DECIDED TO GET ANOTHER ONE BECAUSE MY 3YR OLD SON WAS SO SAD THAT HE LOST HIS 1ST PUPPY. SO WE HAD THIS NEW ONE FOR 5 MONTHS AND SOMEONE STOLD HIM OUT OF HIS KENNEL IN THE BACKYARD. WE WERE GOING TO GIVE UP ON GETTING ANOTHER ONE, BUT WE LOVE BOXERS SO MUCH WE HAD TO GET ANOTHER ONE. SO WE GOT THIS ONE ABOUT 3 WEEKS AGO. WE ARE GOING TO GAURD HIM WITH OUR LIFE. WE DO NOT TRUST ANY OTHER KIND OF DOGS WITH OUR KIDS. THEY ARE THE BEST! First Boxer

This is my first boxer and I must say she is great with kids. She was never socialized by her previous dirt bag owners (sorry they just let her go to the shelter and said she was retarded). Pearl loves everybody and is really really good with kids.

Spot's best friends are kids!

We don't have kids, but our little nieces absolutely adore Spotty, & he lets them do anything. I have heard the same thing about other boxers & kids. They love kids.

Our dog (adopted, & we don't know his history) whines when he sees a stroller/pram... he loves babies especially. Some days I think that I should have a baby, just for the DOG!!!!!!

I would trust my dog with all small children. Teenagers he will bark at through the fence, & when I would walk him at night (alone!) in the city where we used to live, he would give really good growls out to the teenagers in groups near home. I just loved that protection part!!! And yet, if a teenager comes over & we let him/her in the yard, he is an angel! Just one more human to love!

all dogs should bark at teenagers LOL. Sorry couldn't resist I finally got OVER The teenage stage have a 28 and a 20 year old. I just was amused at the barking at teenages. Okay maybe I'm a little sick but it did strike me as funny. Only a mother of teenagers can feel this way....

Boxers and kids are amazing, I think.

The other day we were in the playground and there was another mom with her little min. schnauzer and her two daughters, one about 8 or 9, the other about 5 years old.

We were sitting and talking, not paying much attention to the girls when I hear the 5 year old say "Maggie, Susie, SIT" I looked over thinking the girls were jumping on her (again), but no... she had a stick in her hand and was asking them to sit before shew threw it for them to "fetch." The girls were obeying her every command, like little soldiers! I was so proud of them. They usually don't respond to commands from anyone but me, but they were totally fixed on this little girl. And she was so good with them. Her mom had done a lot of study about dogs and kids and her kids were actively involved in training and properly raising their dog. It was such a joy to see them having so much fun together.

Boxers --- You gotta love 'em !!

Boxers are defintley the best with kids. I trust Bailey with my boys. My boys are only 4&3. Bailey really doesn't listen to them , but just to see Him laying down with the boys its just so cute.

Hello everyone,

I am very happy to see that everyones boxer gets along w/children but mine (Buddy) does not. We go him from a pound and they told me he doesn't like children, cats and I can see he doesn't like male dogs.

Last Sunday my boyfriend and I went to a state park to walk him as we have since we picked him up. We really haven't ran into anyone else since it path's in the woods. Well we stoped at a over look and out of no where 2 children about 6 or 7 come climbing up the mountain. Buddy was pulling toward them, growling, and barking. They just kept coming up, I even asked them to stay there wile we leave but they didn't listen. It took a lot to get him away. I am so scared that he is going to get loose and bite some poor small child. As we left that spot a lady was walking her dog (male) and Buddy went after him too.

But earlier we ran into a guy w/a yellow lab off leash and she just sat by his side. He walked her over to Buddy and they just sniffed each other. No he is not fixed. I still have to look into that.

But anyone know how to stop him from doing this other than just avoiding everywhere?

It sounds to me that he was abused by kids or teased. You should bring him out more often and take him to training classes. He will get used to other dogs that way. You can also put a mussel on him when you take him out. I have a boxer and a pittbull the boxer is so friendly. On the other hand the pitbull is not to friendly to other dogs, but he is to my kids. Our 9 week old boy Sarge loves my 3 children. But he is especially attached to my youngest who is 5. His favorite game is to continuously chase Jessica in a circle around the tree in our front yard. Its comical to watch. I'm happy to know that boxers are protective of their families. Our next door neighbor has an adult son with drug and alchohol problems. I am hesitant to allow my daughters to be outside because of this. The guy doesn't live with his dad but seems to pop up every now and then. He is the only person our 4 year old poodle hates and in fact went after one evening. So Sarge looks pretty harmless now at 6 pounds but someday I know that I'll be able to relax while my kids play in our yard. I know I can't use a dog as a babysitter but he'll put a shield of protection in front of the girls. It is such a joy to see this puppy fall in love with us as quickly and completely as we have with him.
